Italy: First eight Sanremo Giovani 2023 finalists determined

The first eight finalists of the Sanremo Giovani 2023 that will compete in the final show on December 19 have been determined.

The Musical Commission formed of Amadeus, Federica Lentini, Leonardo De Amicis and Massimo Martelli via auditions came down to the first eight finalists that will be taking part in the Sanremo Giovani final.

Namely the first set of finalists are:

bnkr44 – “Effetti speciali”
Clara – “Boulevard”
Grenbaud – “Mama”
Jacopo Sol – “Cose che non sai”
Lor3n – “Fiore d’inverno”
Santi Francesi – “Occhi tristi”
Tancredi – “Perle”
Vale – “Stronza”

The rest four finalists to complete the line up will be determined by the Area Sanremo competition. The 12 acts will compete on the final show of Sanremo Giovani on December 19, with the top three acts earning their way to the 74th edition of Sarenmo Festival. The results will be determined by the Artistic Director and Musical Commissions who each have a 50% contribution to the outcome.

Italy in Eurovision

Italy has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 48 times since making its debut at the first contest in 1956. After a 14-year absence from 1998 and on, the country returned to the contest in 2011. Italy has won the contest twice in 1964 with Gigliola Cinquetti and her song “Non ho l’età”. Italy’s second victory in the contest came in 1990 with Toto Cutugno and the song “Insieme: 1992”.

Italy’s come back to the contest has proved to be very successful, the country having finished in the top ten in eight times of the last decade (2011–2021), with Raphael Gualazzi second in 2011, Nina Zilli ninth in 2012, Marco Mengoni seventh in 2013 and Il Volo third in 2015, Francesco Ghabbani 6th in Kiev, In 2018 Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro, achieved an honorable 5th place while in 2019 Mahmood with 'Soldi' came second in Tel Aviv.

In 2020 Diodato might have won the Sanremo festival with 'Fai Rumore' but unfortunately didn't have the chance to perform in Rotterdam as the contest was cancelled de to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021 the rock band Maneskin won Saremo 2021 and went on representing the nation on Rotterdam where they triumphed with their song 'Zitti e Buoni' bringing the 2022 contest to Italy. On home grounds the duo Mahmood & Blanco represented the nation with their Sanremo 2022 winning song 'Brividi', finishing in the honorable 6th place.

This year Marco Mengoni made a comeback on the Eurovision stage (after 2013) with the song 'Due Vite' which came 4th in the Grand final scoring 350 points.

Eurovision 2023: Semi-Final One & Two overall results revealed

Sweden's Loreen won the 67th Eurovision Song Contest coming first among 26 competing finalists. However the semifinals results that led to the final are always interesting to look at after the contest.

With the lights going off and the glitter and dust settling down, the Eurovision aftermath is always a field of interest and ongoing talks after the contest. The analytical semifinals results that determined the finalists are some of the figures that always attract the attention and raise discussions among the fans.

Loreen topped the overall scoreboad in the final after winning massively the jury voting and coming second in the televoting behind Kaarija from Finland. While the results of the Grand final were determined by a combination of jury and public voting, in the semi-finals the outcome was influenced by televoting exclusively.

Finland's Kaarija won Semi-Final 1 ahead of Sweden's Loreen while Latvia was 3 oints away from the 10th qualifying spot where Serbia with Luke Black was placed with 37 points.

The second semi-final took place on May 11, 202 with 16 countries competing in it and Ukraine, Spain and the United Kingdomalso voting in it.

Australia with Voyager won the semi-final two leaving second behind Austria's duo Teya and Salena. However the point margin between thr last qualifying spot that Estonia got with 74 points is rather wide as Iceland came 11th with 44 points. Romania and San Marino came last with null points each.

Following the two semifinals the Grand final show took place on Saturday evening, May 13 at the M&S Bank Arena which saw Sweden Loreen eventually confirming the bookies predictions and taking the trophy home. Hera is how the final score came out after jury and televoters points were added in:

Sweden wins Eurovision 2023 with Loreen singing 'Tattoo'

The 67th edition of the Eurovision 2023 passed in the book of Eurovision history writing down as big winner the country of Sweden with Loreen and the song 'Tattoo'.

After months of national selections and preparations and two weeks of ongoing rehearsals and two semifinals, Eurovision 2023 conclude with the Grand Final Live Show taking place at M&S Bank Arena in Liveroool.

Liverpool, the city of music, the hometown of Beatles hosted amazingly this year's Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of last year's winners, Ukraine due to the war in the country. BBC , UA:PBC and EBU managed to Unite Europe through music and bring on stage a spectacular show which was hosted by Julia Sanina, Hannah Waddingham, Alesha Dixon alongside with Graham Norton.

A total of 26 countries will be competing in this evening's show. The 20 qualifiers from the 1st and 2nd semi final shows along with the pre-qualified Big-5 countries and last year's winners, Ukraine, took to the stage for their final performance.

The Opening acts

The Grand final show opened with last year’s winners, Kalush Orchestra, performing their special act titled ‘Voices of a New Generation’.

The flag parade will follow with past Ukrainian participants gracing the stage (Jamala, Tina Karol, Go_A, Verka Serduchka).

Interval Acts

Once the competing acts completed their performances the lines opened for the public to vote. Meanwhile we saw take the stage last year UK's Sam Ryder showcasing Liverpool’s pop music history, with former Eurovision acts Mahmood, Netta, Daði Freyr, Cornelia Jakobs, Duncan Laurence, and Sonia taking the stage.

The results

The outcome of the final was determined 50% by the votes from the national juries that were cast last evening during the Jury show and 50% by the televoting that took place in the Grand final live show.

Jury Voting

First the spokesperson of each one of this year's competing countries in the contest, revealed the national final jury votes. With all 37 national juries' votes in this how the jury voting turned out:

Sweden topped the jury voting with the impressive amout of 340 points followed by Israel with 177 points and Italy with 176 points.

Televoting Results added in

Following the jury results the hosts started revealing public voting and how many point each country received from televoting starting from the country with the lowest score in the jury vote. Once all points were attributed the overall score declared winners of this year's contest Sweden's Loreen with the song 'Tattoo'.

Congratulations to Sweden for their 7th victory in Eurovision history catching Ireland in first place with the most victories.

Eurovision 2023: The winners of the Marcel BezencÌ§on Awards

Like every year since 2002, just before the final Eurovision 2023 winner is determined the Marcel Bezençon Awards ceremony took place giving out three special awards.

The Marcel Bezençon Awards , which owe their title from the founder of the Eurovision Song Contest, were introduced by Christer Björkman (Sweden 1992 and current Swedish Head of Delegation) and Richard Herrey (member of the Swedish ESC 1984 winning group The Herreys) and are given out to three acts just before the final show determines the winner of the contest.

Namely the three awards given out were :

Press Award

The Press Award, which is determined by the voted of the accredited media members was handed out to Sweden's Loreen singing “Tattoo”

Artistic Award

The Artistic Award, which is for to the best artistic performance and is attributed by the commentators from each participating broadcaster, was given to Loreen with Tattoo.

Composer Award

The Composer Award, which goes to a song’s team of composers and is determined by the votes of all of the participating composers at this year’s Contest, went this year to Italy's Marco Mengoni for his song 'Due Vite'.

The Grand final show of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest is taking place this evening at 21:00 CEST in Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena to declare the winner of this year's competition.

This is it people! After months of national selections and preparations and two weeks of ongoing rehearsals and two semifinals, Eurovision 2023 is about to conclude with the Grand Final Live Show taking place at M&S Bank Arena in Liveroool at 21:00 CEST.

A total of 26 countries will be competing in this evening's show. The 20 qualifiers from the 1st and 2nd semi final shows along with the pre-qualified Big-5 countries and last year's winners, Ukraine, , will take the stage for their final performance.

The Jury show for the Eurovision 2023 Grand final competing acts is taking place this evening in M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, UK.

The Eurovision week is just a stone throw away from its end and the Eurovision 2022 Grand final live show, with the Jury Show taking place this evening at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool at 21:00 CEST.

The 26 competing acts will take the stage and perform their entries which will be watched by all 37 national juries of the countries that took part this year. The Jury show is of significant importance as the jury votes count as the 50% of the score with the rest 50% been deteremined tomorrow by the public votes during tomorrow's Grand final live show, which will declare the final winner of this year's contest.

Luxembourg: RTL will return to Eurovision in 2024

The EBU has has confirmed that Luxembourg's RTL will be retuning to Eurovision in 2024.

Following the discussions that had already began months ago between Luxembourg's broadcaster. RTL and EBU regarding a potential return of the landlocked country in Eurovision, EBU announced today that we will see in the next contest the nation returning.

Luxembourg participated last time in Eurovision 1993. Taking into consideration the long time away from the contest, Luxembourgish Prime Minister Xavier Bettel had taken the initiative, as the Minister for Communications and Media, and brought the matter of a potential return to Eurovision 2024 for discission at the Council of Luxembourg.

The Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest Martin Österdahl says on Luxembourg's return:

'"We are thrilled to welcome back Luxembourg to the Eurovision Song Contest after 30 years. The country has one of the most successful records in the Contest with 5 wins in the first three decades of the competition alone. We very much look forward to working with RTL on their return to the world’s biggest live music event in 2024"

RTL's CEO Christophe Goossens adds:

"We are delighted that Luxembourg is returning to the Eurovision Song Contest – and even more excited that RTL Luxembourg will take on the exhilarating task of selecting the 2024 delegation. As a media company that is dedicated to the people of Luxembourg, we are looking forward to broadcasting the star-studded live shows. Viewers will be able to experience the Eurovision Song Contest in its full glory."

Luxembourg in Eurovision

And all this would have been insignificant for a tiny European landlocked country if this country wasn’t one of the founder members of EBU that participated in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano.

Luxembourg has achieved an admirable total of five victories in the contest (1961,1965,1972,1973, 1983). Some of the most worlwide acclaimed acts have represented the nation, such as Lara Fabian, Ireen Sheer, Baccara, Nana Mouskouri, Vicky Leandros, Anne Marie David, France Gall. Despite its 37 participations, the low placing in the contest and the low TV rating in the country have kept it many years away from the Eurovision Stage.

Luxembourg was last seen in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 in Millstreet when Modern Times represented the country with the song Donnez Moi Une Chance De Te Dire and achieved a 20th placing.

Eurovision 2023: The 10 Second Semi-Final Qualifiers; Grand Final line up completed

The Second Semi Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 took place this evening at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool completing the Grand final line-up with the second set of ten qualifiers.

After months of national selections, preparations, runs of rehearsals and last Tuesday's Semi-final One show in Liverpool the second semi final live show was held tonight selecting the first ten acts that made it through to the final show.

Julia Sanina, Hannah Waddingham and Alesha Dixon had the honor to guide the viewers throughout tonight's show, which a saw a total of 16 acts representing on stage their countries and giving the battle to secure one of the last ten qualifying spots to the Grand final. Welsh actor Luke Evans will open the show.

As the lines were open for voting the interval act was a tribute to this year's co-hosting country Ukraine with an act called Music Unites Generations. Past Ukrainian Eurovision stars Mariya Yaremchuk (2014) and Zlata Dziunka (Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022) graced the stage performing a medley of Ukrainian pieces of music together with Otoy. In addition, three drag performers performed Be who you wanna be, a dance act set up by Jason Gilkison. They were joined on stage by the Ukrainian dance ensemble Podilya.

The Results

The 16 competing acts took the stage and performed their entries live on air before the audience and million of viewers around the world, with the viewers in the competing countries and those of United Kingdom, Spain and Ukraine been able to cast their vote to determine the outcome of the semi-final which this year is determined exclusively by televoting. In addition international viewers are able to cast their votes through the official Eurovision app, with their points included as a seperate set of points.

The Eurovision week is progressing to the Semi Final 2 Live Show taking place this evening at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool at 21:00 CET.

As Eurovision week is unwinding, following last evening's Jury rehearsal show for the Semi Final 2 competing acts, tonight the Semi-final 2 Live show will take place in M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The story so far

How did we end up in Liverpool? Since Ukraine who won last year's contest couldn't host the contest due to the war in the region the EBU released a statement revealing that the 2022 runner-up, United Kingdom. Then the race among the British cities went on with 7 of them shortlisted to continue in the race. Out of the seven candidate cities two went through to the final stage (Glasgow and Liverpool) with Liverpool eventually named Eurovision 2023 host city under the slogan 'United by Music'.

A total of 37 countries will be taking part in the 67th edition , with 31 countries competing in the two semifinals on May 9 and 11 while the Big 5 countries ( United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy) will qualify directly to the Grand final on May 13, 2023 along with last year's winning country, Ukraine.

What else to see tonight

As this year's contest is held on behalf of Ukraine the organisers pay respect to the nation in many way. The show will kick off with Luke Evans, the famous actor, who will recite a text based on the history of the competition. As the night progresses, the interval act will feature Ukrainian artists Mariya Yaremchuk, Otoy and Zlata Dziunka who will present “Music Unites Generations”, a medley of famous Ukrainian tracks. In addtion, we will enjoy a special show entitled "Be Who You Wanna Be". It is a dance performance choreographed by Jason Gilkison starring three drag artists and the Ukrainian dance troupe Podilya.

The results

While in previous years the result was determing 50% by the jury votes count and the 50% by televoting, this year the audience will exclusively select the 10 qualifiers that will advance to the final. The viewers in the competing countries and those of Spain, United Kingdom and Ukraine will be able to cast their vote to determine the results. In addition in this edition we will have an extra set fo votes coming from the Rest of the world, with the international vierwers having their say on who will go through to the final.

Before the press conference that followed the Eurovision 2023 1st semi-final live show a draw took place determinng in which half of the grand final the 10 qualifiers will be performing.

The 1st semi final results are in and the ten qualifiers were able to express their first feelings during the press conference that followed the live show. Right before that, the qualifiers had a draw that showed in which half of the Grand final they are going to perform.

The First Semi Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 took place this evening at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool determining the first ten qualifiers for this year's Grand final show.

After months of national selections and preparations and following a week of rehearsals in Liverpool the first semi final live show was held tonight selecting the first ten acts that made it through to the final show.

Julia Sanina, Hannah Waddingham and Alesha Dixon had the honor to guide the viewers throughout tonight's show, which a saw a total of 15 acts representing on stage their countries and giving the battle to secure one of the ten qualifying spots to the Grand final.

As this year's contest is held on behalf of Ukraine the organisers are paying respect to the nation in many ways. The show kicked off with Julia Sanina, member of the band The Hardkiss, performing Mayak and Together in electric dreams.

The 15 competing acts took the stage and performed their entries live on air before an the audience, with the viewers in the competing countries and those of Germany, France and Italy been able to cast their vote to determine the outcome of the semi-final which this year is determined exclusively by televoting. In addition international viewers are able to cast their votes through the official Eurovision app, with their points included as a seperate set of points.

INFE Poll 2023: Sweden is the big winner of this year's poll! Last votes coming from Rest of the world

The International Network of Fan Clubs of Eurovision (INFE) concludes its annual Eurovision INFE Poll 2023, that has been presented to the fans through an exclusive collaboration with ESCToday for a 7th consecutive year, with the 22nd and last set of results coming from Rest of the World. Sweden's Loreen is crowned winner !!

With the next Eurovision Song Contest a stone throw away the two major international fan clubs around the Eurovision Song Contest, OGAE (Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l’Eurovision) and INFE (International Network of Fanclubs of Eurovision) are holding their annual polls giving us an indication of which acts are fans' favorites for this year.

The INFE Network held its 2023 poll and is once again joining forces with ESCToday for the 7th year in a row! The 22nd and last set of votes for the poll comes from the fans of INFE Rest of the World.

Eurovision 2023: Live from Liverpool the Turquoise Carpet

Good afternoon Europe and Australia!.....This is Liverpool calling!! Eurovision 2023 week is about to officially kick off with the Turquoise Carpet set to take place at 16:00 CEST at the Walker Art Gallery just next to the iconic St. George’s Hall in Liverpool.

The carpet has been unrolled, the lights are set and here come the Eurovision stars of 2023, as the Eurovision shows weeks is about to start with the Opening Ceremony and the Turquoise Carpet ready to mark the primary week of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest here in Liverpool.

This year's Opening Ceremony wil take place at the Walker Art Gallery next to the iconic St. George’s Hall.

The Location

St George's Hall is a building on St George's Place, opposite Lime Street railway station in the centre of Liverpool, England. Opened in 1854, it is a Neoclassical building which contains concert halls and law courts, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.On the east side of the hall, between it and the railway station, is St George's Plateau and on the west side are St John's Gardens. The hall is included in the William Brown Street conservation area

The first week of the Eurovision 2023 rehearsals in Liverpool is closing with the second round of rehearsals for the Big-5 countries and Ukraine.

The Big-5 countries ( United Kingdom. Italy, Spain, Germany, France) and Ukraine are taking the stage for their second rehearsal and are completing the first week of rehearsal before the main Eurovision week begins.

Germany: Lord of the lost - Blood and Glitteer

Germany's delegates open today's rehearsals and Lord of the Lost take to the stage for their second rehearsal of 'Blood and glitter'. The lead singer, Chris is wearing his red latex outfit with the addition of some wings behind. Red and dark colors , ongoing motion and a raw performance that at the end we might see Chris flying out of the rooftop. We can't wait to see the full live tv version of this performance!

When a classy staging meets brilliant vocals then Evidement we have to talk about La Zarra from France who returns on stage for her second rehearsal

A really outstanding staging perfromance from La Zarra with a touch of French elegance. Keep your eyes on this act, not that they want to turn to somewhere else, but La Zarra is building something up over the last days!

Last year's winning nation is back for a second rehearsal with TVORCHI taking to the stage to deliver once again their entry 'Heart of Steel'. An extensive use of the LED screen as Jeffrey along with his backing dancers conveys to the audience that pulse and energy. We have costume change as Andrii has replaced his silver coat with a black trousers suit with some silver details on the top part of it.

Spain's Blaca Paloma is brinig her flamenco vibes again on stage with the second rehearsal of 'Eaea' No major changes from the first rehearsal. Red and white color dominates the backdrop as Paloma delivers amazingly her entry. The passion and energy are floating on the stage and we can feel it!

United Kingdom: Mae Muller - I wrote a song

The hosting nation's hopeful, Mae Muller, is the closing act for today's rehearsal and brings again her energy on staging performing 'I wrote a song'. Eurovision 2023: The betting odds after the first week of rehearsals

We are in the middle of rehearsals for the competing countries in the semi finals and the grand finalists with the first impression having a significant impact on the betting odds board.

A total of 31 countries are competing in this year's semi final shows , 15 in the 1st semi final and 16 in the second show. All of them have completed their first rehearsal over the previous days, with the first impressions affecting some countries positively and others negatively.

Here is how the bookies' predictions have developed:

The top 10 places

According to the latest Eurovision Song Contest betting odds, the winning chances have changed following the first rehearsals. Sweden and Loreen is still in the lead with a 38% chance of winning, followed by Finland with Käärijä with a 24% chance, solidifying their position as a strong contender. La Zarra from France has a 9% chance of winning, having climbed up to third place following their impressive first rehearsal, while Ukraine's TVORCHI has a 6% chance of winning and has fallen to fourth place. Spain and Blanca Paloma is still in fifth place with a 4% chance of winning.

The latest Eurovision Song Contest betting odds also provide insight into which countries are likely to place in the rest of the top ten. In sixth place is Alessandra from Norway with a 3% chance of winning, followed by Israel and Noa Kirel in seventh place with a 2% chance. Italy's Marco Mengoni is in eighth place with a 2% chance of winning as well, while Teya & Salena Austria follows closely in ninth place with a 1% chance. Rounding out the top ten is the United Kingdom's Mae Muller with a 1% chance of winning. These countries have all shown strong performances in the first rehearsals, but as always, the competition is unpredictable and anything can happen on the night of the event. Nonetheless, these odds provide a good indication of which countries are currently in the running to place highly in the competition.

Places 11 to 20

Near the top 10 places are the Armenia's Brunette , Vesna from Czechia and Australia's Voyager. The rest countries following in the places 14- to 20 might gain a place or two but seem to have no potential in entering the top. And it 's remarkable if you take into account that among them are countries like Slovenia ( Joker Out) and Serbia (Luke Black) which are quite popular on social media and in a lot of fan-made top 10's.

The overall impression

The first week of rehearsals contributed in stabilizing the top 10 countries that stood out with their first two on stage perfromances. The following hours we will see slight changes within the top 10. Moreover, Sweden and Finland seem to be the hot favorites at the moment.

The two semi final shows are the next factors to have the final impact on the betting odds board. Depending on which countries will make it to the final eventually and how the already top 10 countries will deliver in the following shows are parameters that could play a decisive role on how the betting odds will develope.

For us keep a close look to two more countries that we think that can work as dark horses in the race, these are France and Israel especially the second seems to show potential for further elevation in the odds.

Eurovision 2023 rehearsals Day 6: Second rehearsal footage of eleven Semi-final 2 acts

Eleven nations competing in Semi-final 2 are taking the stage today and have a chance to rehearse for a second time their entries.

Namely Cyprus, Iceland, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, San Marino, Austria, Albania, Lithuania and Australia will be taking to the stage for their second run of rehearsals.

The rehearsal week is divided into two primary phases: the first rehearsals of all competing countries into the two semi finals take place while in the second phase the second reeharsals of all competing countries in the semi finals are held along with the first rehearsals of the Big-5 countries and the host nation.

This year all rehearsals are held closed to the press and without the presence of any audience as rehearsals material will be released only on TikTok and eurovision.tv with photos and backstage content.

Cyprus – Andrew Lambrou – “Break a Broken Heart”

Cyprus' Andrew Lambrou opened today's rehearsals with his second round of rehearsals. He takes too the stage this time barefoot and wearing the same clothes as in the first rehearsal. The Cypriot hopeful seems even more confident on stage and we can bet that he delivers those high notes amazingly!

Iceland – Diljá – “Power”

Next up for her second rehearsal is Dilja from Iceland. Dilja is wearing her silver outfit combined this time with a pair of stylish earings! Her song is all about power and she definetely delivers it conveying us all the energy and vibes !

Up next comes this year's youngest contestant, Greece's Victor Vernicos ready to rehearse for a second time his song 'What they say'. Without any changes to hos costume Victor delivers his entry with the same energy and confindence! If we didn't know that this talent is 16 years old we would assume that he's been doing stages for years. We a pretty sure he'll pass these vibes through to the audience the semi-final night.

Next Second rehearsal is a family case! The Albanian delegates , Albina and Familja Kelmendi, are back on the stage to deliver once again their entry 'Duje'. Lovely performance with the red color and flames dominating the staging.

Lithuania – Monika Linkytė – “Stay”

Lithuania's Monika Linkyte is the seocnd last rehearsal of the day and is urging us to 'Stay'! Beautiful Monika takes the stages wearing a orang strappless mini dress combned with a pair of orange high platform hills. Very expressive as she performans her song making us keep our eyes on her. Not her first tiime on the Eurovision stage so she certainly knows how to deliver those notes!

Australia – Voyager – “Promise”

Australia is closing the rehearsal week for the semi-finalist with the second rehearsal of Voyager. The Aussie group is promising to take us on a musical journey from electro-techno sounds to the boundaries of rock. Same staging as in the the first rehearsal. Next Thursday is going to be a long night of standing and dancing for the audience in and out of the arena!

Good Morning Europe! Eurovision 2023 rehearsals progress today to Day 6 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, UK with 11 countries from Semi-final 2 running their second rehearsal.

Eleven nations competing in Semi-final 2 will take the stage today and have a chance to rehearse for a second time their entries. The rehearsal week is divided into two primary phases: the first rehearsals of all competing countries into the two semi finals take place while in the second phase the second reeharsals of all competing countries in the semi finals are held along with the first rehearsals of the Big-5 countries and the host nation.
