Junior Eurovision 2024: The 22nd edition in Madrid attracted 23 million viewers

  • The EBU has released the viewing figures of the latest Junior Eurovision edition in Madrid which reflect an upgrowing acceptance of the contest.

    The numbers are out and they are really impressive for the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest that took place on November 16 at Caja Majica in Madrid. A total of 17 countries took part with the trophy landing evenutually in Georgia with Adria Putkaradze, marking the 4th victory for the country. 

    The 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) reached 23 million viewers across 15 markets and saw millions more engaged through digital platforms.

    Specifically, The event achieved a 15.7% viewing share among children aged 4-14, more than triple the average for the channel, and a notable 8.1% share among 15–24-year-olds.In addition, Online channels saw significant year-on-year growth, including a 33% increase in Instagram reach (5.6 million accounts) and a 64% jump in TikTok views (46 million).

    Even more impressive are the figures coming from different countries. Namely, Spain, France, Poland, and Portugal saw significant increases in TV viewership, with Spain attracting 1.1 million viewers, its third-largest audience. Also 43% of those watching the show on the official JESC YouTube channel were under 24-years old with the highest number of viewers for the live show watching in host country Spain, followed by Poland, Armenia, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom and Greece.

     

    Going wild online

    On Instagram, content featuring the talented artists from 17 countries reached 5.6 million accounts, up a third year on year. TikTok also saw exponential growth with 46 million post views, up from 28 million in the same period in 2023. 6 million accounts were reached on Facebook, up 4 million on the 2023 event.**

     

    Regarding the encouraging upgrwoing figures of success JESC Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl stated

    We’re thrilled to see the huge success of the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest, capturing the hearts and imaginations of millions of viewers worldwide with unprecedented engagement and growth among younger audiences.

    And went on saying:

    “From record-breaking digital interactions to massive TV viewership in participating countries, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest has once again solidified its place as a global celebration of young talent, creativity, and unity. Our thanks go once again to RTVE for hosting such a memorable edition for everyone involved."
