Eurovision 2022 - Live in Turin: Rehearsals Day Four (May 3)

  • The Eurovision 2022 rehearsals continue for a fourth day in Pala Olimpico, Turin with the second group of 9 countries from Semi-final 2 taking the stage for their first rehearsal.

    The second set of nine acts of the 2022 Eurovision Second Semi-final will take the stage today. Namely, Ireland, North Macedonia, Estonia, Romania, Poland, Montenegro, Belgium, Sweden and Czech Republic are making their first rehearsals.

    The rehearsal week is divided into two primary phases: From today and up to Tuesday 4/5 the first rehearsals of all competing countries into the two semi finals take place while from Wednesday 5/5 till Saturday 7/5 the second rehearsals of all delegates in both semi finals are held along with the first rehearsals of the Big-5 countries and the host nation. 

    This is how today's rehearsals will unfold in Pala Olimpico in CEST time:

    • 10:00 – 10:30 Ireland: Brooke - "That's Rich"
    • 10:40 – 11:10 North Macedonia - Andrea - "Circles"
    • 11:20 – 11:50 Estonia: Stefan - "Hope"
    • 12:00 – 12:30 Romania: WRS - "Llamame"

    Lunch break

    • 13:40 – 14:10 Poland: Ochman - "River"
    • 14:20 – 14:50 Montenegro: Vladana - "Breathe"
    • 15:00 – 15:30 Belgium: Jeremie Makiese - "Miss You"

    Break

    • 16:00 – 16:30 Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs - "Hold Me Closer"

    1.Ireland: Brooke - "That's Rich"

    The rehearsals of the day open with Brooke from Irealand who will be singing 'That's Rich'. Brooke made it to the Eurovision stage afer winning the Irish national final .

    Brook takes the stage dressed all in electric blue while her four female backing dancers are in white. Brooke is wearing hotpants paired with a see-through skirt over it all that combined with a cropped top. 

    Rising to fame as a finalist of The Voice UK 2020, Brooke wowed the judges and viewers with her performances now she's taken the Eurovision stage bringing her energy in Turin with her song 'That's Rich' a phrase that is used in English when someone is accusing someone else for something he does himself. Brooke unfold her energy and dynamism on stage convey an 80's -electo 90's vibes to the audience.

    2.North Macedonia - Andrea - "Circles"

    Second up for today is Andrea from North Macedonia. Andrea booked her ticket for Turin after winning the North Macedonian national final with her song 'Circles'

    Andrea appears on stage alone dress on in black. Black pans with a sleevelss black on top combined with a long black coat over it, all this paired with high black boots. Her performance features a alternating lighting giving a dramatic tone to her set and out of the simplicity of her staging she leaves room for her vocal skills to unfold and attract the attention as she delivers her song.

    3.Estonia: Stefan - "Hope"

    Next for his first rehearsal is the Estonian hopeful, Stefan! After three attempts in the Estonian national selection of Eesti Laul, Stefan managed to book his spot in Eurovision after winning in this year's Eesti Laul national selection with the song 'Hope'

    Stefan takes the stage along using the second stage floor and delivers his songs holding his guitar. While being static in the first part of the song as the entry progressess he gets in motion filling the whole space while his expressive interpretation of the song allows him get inteactive with the audience. Despite his loneliness on stage his energy leaves an overwhelming imopact on his viewers. Nice job from the Estonian delegate!

    4.Romania: WRS - "Llamame"

    Last act before the Luch break is Romania's hopeful WRS. WRS (Andrei Ursu) opened his way to the Eurovision world after winning the Romanian national selection 'Selectia Nationala' with his song “Llámame”.

    WRS is taking the stage wearing black shiny trouses combined with a red shirt with frills which later on is removed to reveal a  silver vest with sequins. WRS is accompanied by two male dancers wearing tight cropped tops and two female dancers with body suits with featuring bell-shaped pants. 

    Before starting his career as a vocalist, he worked as a backup dancer in television and for other artists, taking after his parents who are both folk dancers a well deserved history that WRS showcases on stage with his choreography. The invitation to dance along is clearly up there emphasized in Spanish 'Llámame” .

    5.Poland: Ochman - "River"

    Following the lunch break, Chrystian Ochman, for Poland is next to rehearse his song for the first time. This year the Polish broadcaster, TVP,  switched to a national final in order to determine their Eurovision 2022 representative, which Ochman won with his ballad song 'River'. He came to fame and has met success after winning the 11th edition of The Voice of Poland and now ambitions to conquer Europe with his oustanding vocals. 

    This is a performance with a lot of water element in and around it!! Ochman's River delivered over the stage waterfall with water themed graphics on the backdrop..... a very "wetty" situation! Ochman is dressed in a stylish black suit with a white shirt under it. He is accompanied by four masked backing dancers who wear fringing costumes making them seem as flowing ghosts around the scene. 

    The lighting swtiches from dark blue black colors to more bright colors through flashes of lighting which comnbined with the whole set up and the oustanding vocals of Ochman bring a big impact to the audience.

    6.Montenegro: Vladana - "Breathe"

    Montenegro's hopeful, Vladana, follows to rehearse the song 'Breathe'. Vladana was internally selected by the Montenegrin broadcaster, RTCG, to represent the Balkan nation. Vladana's song has been co-written and arranged by Darko Dimitrov, who has been behind past ESC entries ( N.Macedonia 2006 & 2019 and Serbia 2021).

    Vladana is one fo the contestants to use the B stage too. She is appears in a classy fashioned blue dress reminding us that we are in the country of fashion anyway. The impact from the lighting effect along with Vladana's amazing vocals delivering her dramatic power ballad carry the audience in a deep breathe!

    7.Belgium: Jeremie Makiese - "Miss You"

    Next up on stage comes Belgium's representative, Jeremie Makiese to rehearse his song 'Miss You'. Back in June the winner of the 9th season of The Voice Belgium, had expressed his interest in representing the country at Eurovision. Not long after RTBF internally selected him to represent Belgium in Turin with his song 'Miss You'. 

    Jeremie takes the stage wearing an impressive silver jacket while he's joined by four backing dancers who provide the motion to his staging. But this is a case where you say that it's all about the voice. Jeremie has a great distinctive voice and delivers flawlessly his dynamic ballad which ends with a captivating orchestral culmination.

    8.Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs - "Hold Me Closer"

    Second last rehearsal for the day comes from Sweden's Cornelia Jakobs performing 'Hold Me Closer'. Cornelia won this year's Melodifestivalen and ambitions to bring to Sweden their 6th victory. She started her career as member of the girl group Love Generation, who participated in Melodifestivalen 2011 and 2012. 

    Cornelia appears on stage wearing black trousers paired with a silver sparkling fringing top and she delivers her song barefooted. The set is similar to that of her Melfest staging, with the circle shaped projection screen behind here channging colors. With her distinctive voice and the camera angles changing throughout the songs she comes CLOSER to her audience making herself more bosom in order to convey the sensitivity behind the lyrics.

    9.Czech Republic: We Are Domi - "Lights Off"

    And if you were about to take a nap after the last two ballad songs and tricked by the songtiltle of the next song forget about it ! The day closes with the Czech Republic's delgates, We are Domi and their totally uptempo party song "Lights off"

    We are Domi made it to the stage in Turin after winning the Czech national selection ESCZ  2022 ESCZ  2022 . The electro-pop band which was formed in the United Kingdom in 2018 but is currently based in the Czech Republic. The group consist ofs a Czech-Norwegian trio led by singer Dominika Hašková , daughter of the famous Czech hockey player Dominika Hašek. Dominika met her music colleagues Casper Hatlestad and Benjamin Rekstad for the first time in Leeds, UK.

    A ongoing massive use of lighting and spotlights in motion along with the rhythm of the piece make you feel that you've just entered an electro-pop party. Really nicely delivered pop song from We Are Domi prewarming us for a night out clubbing in Turin!
