Lithuania: Monika Liu to Eurovision 2022 with the song

  • Monika Liu won the Lithuanian national final of Pabandom iš naujo! 2022 singing "Sentimentai" and will be flying to Turin as the county's Eurovision 2022 hopeful.

    Pabandom iš naujo 2022 consisted of six shows. After three qualifying rounds, two semifinals the Grand final show took place this evenig to select the next Lithuanian Eurovision act. The show wias hosted by the trio  Ieva Stasiulevičiūtė, Giedrius Masalskis and Richardas Jonaitis. Giedrius is no stranger to the audience as he had presented the preevious national selections while Ieva is hosting for a second successive year. Also Last year's representatives The Roop featured the show as guests performing on stage. 

    A total of 8 acts that qualified from the two semifinals competed for the right to represent Lithuania at Eurovision 2022. The acts that took part in the national final show were: 

     

    1. Queens of Roses – Washing Machine

     

    2. Justė Kraujelytė – How To Get My Life Back

     

    3. Gebrasy – Into Your Arms

     

    4. Lolita Zero – Not Your Mother

     

    5. Monika Liu – Sentimentai

     

    6. Augustė Vedrickaitė – Before You’re 6ft Under

     

    7. Rūta Loop – Call Me from the Cold

     

    8. Ieva Zasimauskaitė – I’ll Be There

     

    The results

    The outcome was detemined by public voting (50%) and jury voting (50%). The members of the jury whch influenced 50% of the result were: 

    • Ramūnas Zilnys – Editor-in-chief of LRT music
    • Gerūta Griniūtė – Editor of LRT television and radio
    • Vytautas Bikus – Composer and producer
    • Stanislavas Stavickis-Stano – Composer and producer
    • Aistė Smilgevičiūtė –  Lithuania's Eurovision 1999 act
    • Ieva Narkutė – Singer
    • Vaidotas Valiukevičius – Leading vocalist of The Roop, Lithuania's  Eurovision 2020 and 2021 acts

     

    Once the jury and public votes were added all up this how the overall scoreboard turned out with Monika Liu declared as the winner and the next Lithuanian Eurovision hopeful:

    A few words for Monika Liu

    Monika Liubinaitė (stage name Monika Liu was born on February 9 , 1988  in Klaipėda. into the family of a kanklina, a music teacher and a musician. He studied at Klaipėda Ąžuolynas Gymnasium , attending ballet lessons when he was little. As a student, Monica moved to Boston and later moved to London.

    The singer began her musical career at the age of five when she began to study the violin. She discovered singing only ten years later and immediately, in 2004, triumphed iin the Song competition "Dainų dainelė“. After graduating, she chose jazz music and vocal studies at the Faculty of Music of Klaipeda University , and later went to the United States. Ste moved to London going on with the composition of songs. 

    She has worked with the famous producer Mario Basanov , collaborated with the electronic music family Silence, recorded the song "Not Yesterday" with the band Sel , won the vocal competitions, and performed successfully at LRT .in the television project " Golden Voice".

    2020 April 20 the artist released her second album and her first vinyl record, 'Melody'. Talking about her music she says: 

    "My songs are about youth, dreams, fear, insanity, loneliness and, most importantly, love. From how people react to my music - they smile, laugh or tear up, I understand how much we have all experienced in love and what unites us."
