Spain: Chanel wins Benidorm Fest 2022 with "SloMo" and is off to Turin

Chanel is the big winner of Benidorm Fest and will be representing Spain at Eurovision 2022 with her song 'SloMo'.
Chanel with her energetic, full in motion performance of her song 'SloMo' was a clear favorite from the semifinals stage already. The results of the Grand final of Benidorm Fest that took place in the coastal city o Benidorm Saturday evening just confirmed that trend even though the national final was competitive.
Following the first and second semi-final shows, Spain determined its Eurovision 2022 hopeful and entry through the Grand final of Benidorm Festival. The show took place at the Palau Municipal d’Esports l’Illa de Benidorm and was presented like the previous two semifinals by Alaska, Inés Hernand and Màxim Huerta.
Beside the competing part the show featured several performances by guest stars among which Pastora Soler (Spain 2012) Blas Cantó (Spain 2021), Nia Correia and Nyno Vargas (OT 2020).
A total of 13 acts competed in two semifinals from which four acts qualified from each round to this evening's Grand final show. Thus, a total of eight acts took part in the national final which declared winner Chanel.
The eight acts that took the stage in Benidorm were:
1.Rayden – “Calle de la llorería” (Crying street)
2.Tanxugueiras - "Terra" (Land)
3.Varry Brava – “Raffaella”
4.Chanel – “Slo mo”
5.Rigoberta Bandini – “Ay Mama” (O Mum)
6.Xeinn – “Eco” (Echo)
7.Gonzalo Hermida –“Quién lo diría” (Who would say it)
8.Blanca Paloma – “Secreto de Agua” (Secret of Water)The result was influenced by three bodies of voters: the professional jury (50%) , the demoscopic jury (25%) and the televoting (25%).The jury panel that contributed in the outcome of the show consisted of the followiing members:
- Estefanía García – Coordinator of the RTVE Orchestra and Choir
- Felix Bergsson – Iceland's Head of Delegation
- Marvin Dietmann – Creative Director
- Miryam Benedited – Choreographer
- Natalia Calderón – Singer and actress
THE RESULTS
The Jury's votes
The mixed jury panel (formed 60% by national jurors and 40% by international) was the first to unveil its points which turned out like pictured below:
Chanel won the jury vote with 51 points followed closely by Rigoberta Bandini in second place with 46 points, while third came Blanca Paloma with 39 points.
The Demoscopic jury's votes
The demoscopic audience's votes, which counted for 25% of the overall result were added next:
The voting by the demoscopic jury saw Tanxugueiras coming first with 30 points and climbed up to 3rd position of the overall score, while Chanel came second with 25 points and maintained her lead up to this point, with Rigoberta Bandini coming third with 20 points, keeping secure the 2nd place in the overall score.
The televoting results
Last were added the votes from the televoting which counted for 25% of the overall vote and with the addition of the televoters' verdict the final winner was determined.
Here is how the televoters voted and gave shape to the final results of the Benidorm Fest grand final:
Even though Tanxugueiras topped the televoting with 30 points and Rigoberta Bandini came second with 25 points, Chanel with her 3rd place and 20 points from the televoting maintained her lead till the end and won the Benidorm Festival along with the right to represent Spain at Eurovision 2022.
Congratulations to Chanel who will be performing her song "SloMo" representing Spain in Turin at the Grand final of Eurovision 2022 on May 14, 2022.
