Azerbaijan: More than 200 songs sent to Ictimai TV for Eurovision 2023 selection
-
Azerbaijan's national broadcaster, Ictimai, has received more than 200 songs for the Eurovision 2023 selection.
The Head of Delegation Vasif Mammadov has revealed that the broadcaster has received over 200 songs for Eurovision 2023. Most of the songs come from international composers and song writers that are out of the country according to 12 Xal's report.
This is the first time after years that interested acts could submit their own application for Eurovision. Over the last years the act was internally selected and the submissions concerned the song selection only.
As Mr. Mammadov explains this year ITV intends to give the stand to Azerbaijani composers, unlike previous years, when international composers were behind the Eurovision entries.
“Our goal and desire with this is to have local composer’s music featured in the competition. Based on the selection process, if local and foreign songs meet the same criteria, we will prefer the local song. That is, we really want the music of Azerbaijani composers to be played in the competition. Let’s demonstrate that we also have talented composers. I hope this can serve as a stimulus for years to come." says Azerbaijan's head of delegation.
The announcement of the next Eurovision representative is expected to take place by the end of January.
