Eurovision 2023 Day 2 rehearsals: First rehearsal footage of ten more countries

  • The second set of ten competing acts of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest are taking the stage today for their first rehearsal.  

    The rehearsals week is divided into two primary phases:  the first rehearsals of all competing countries into the two semi finals take place while in the second phase the second reeharsals of all competing countries in the semi finals are held along with the first rehearsals of the Big-5 countries and the host nation. 

    This year all rehearsals are held closed to the press and  without the presence of any audience as rehearsals material will be released on  only on TikTok and eurovision.tv with photos and backstage content.

    Israel: Noa Kirel – “Unicorn”

    Day 2 rehearsals in M&S Bank Arena open with Israel's hoepful, Noa Kirel and her 'Unicorn'Noa Kirel ( born 10 April 2001) is an Israeli singer, actress, and television host. She won the MTV Europe Music Awards for the best Israeli act between 2017 and 2020.Kirel appeared in the Pushers documentary series from HOT, which tracks parents who push their children to success in different areas.

    In 2015 she performed her first song on YouTube named "Medabrim?".Following its success, that year she released another song called "Killer". In June 2020, Noa signed a contract with the American label, Atlantic Records. In December of that year, Kirel signed with WME.On July 14, 2021, she released her first international single, "Please Don't Suck".On October 15, 2021, she released the single "Bad Little Thing"

    Noa was internally selected last summer to represent the Israeli nation. She will be singing 'Unicorn' in the 9th position of the first semi-final. She apprears on stage accompanied by five backing dancers all dressed in pink black colored outfits. The Israeli delegates begins her performance in a big box illuminated with LED lighting while flashing lights feature the staging. Noa herself treats us with an impressive acrobatic move during her performance ...Noa do it like Sakis Rouvas back in 2004!

    Azerbaijan: TuralTuranX – “Tell Me More”

    Second to rehearse is Azerbaijan with TuralTuranX singing “Tell Me More”. Turan and Tural Bagmanov were born in the city of Zagatala – according to the brothers-musicians, they met the piano at school, which aroused their great interest, and after which they even began to skip lessons to learn songs. Seeing his sons' interest in music, his father bought them a synthesizer, and then the brothers learned to play the guitar.

    The two brothers from Azerbaijan appear on stage wearing a green and purple suits. They deliver their song standing on a heart shaped podium while the stage is lit up by multi colored spot lights from behind and above.

    Czechia: Vesna – “My Sisters Crown”

    Up next to rehearse first time is the female group from Czechia Vesna. Vesna is a female band led by singer-songwriter Patricie Fuxova. During their tenure, the band has released two albums, including duets with Vojta Dyk and František Černý (Čechomor). In 2019, Vesna received a nomination for the Anděl Awards and was chosen as a support act by the Scandinavian singer Aurora. Vesna’s music uses elements of folklore set to modern pop, creating her characteristic combination of dreamy and lively music on stage. The band’s permanent members come from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia.

    Vesna made it to the Eurovision stage after winning the Czech national final with the song 'My Sister's Crown'. Vesna are bringing on stage a mixture of pop and rap vibes combined with a touch of folk music. English, Czech, Bulgarian and Ukrainian come along to reinforce the sense of diversity and their mutlinational appeal.

    Netherlands: Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper – “Burning Daylight”

    Next up are the Dutch delegates, the duo Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper singing 'Burning Daylight'. 

    Mia, is 26 year old, with her whole live flooded with music. From the age of three she has been taking violin and piano lessons and from home she has received a very creative artistic upbringing, with drama, ballet, music and storytelling.In her debut single 'Set Me Free', travel and her need for ultimate freedom were the two elements in the frontline. In November 2020 she dropped her second single 'Mutual Needs.

    Dion, is 28 years old and had the ambition of making music from early times. He began playing the guitar at the age of fifteen and since then it's his other half in his music journey. In the following years he started singing and writing his own music and in 2021 he dropped his first EP 'Too Young Too Dumb', followed by the single 'Fire' which he releases together with Maxine.

    Internally selected Mia & Dion are bringing on the stage their piano ballad behind the lyrics of which is also the winner of 2019, Duncan Lawrence. They are both dressed in black and deliver theri song in a set up that makes the performance feel intimate. Spotlights on the backdrop, smoke effects and diverse camera angles showcase their harmony and artistic chemistry on stage.

    Finland: Käärijä – “Cha Cha Cha”

    It's time for Finland to rehearse and Käärijä to deliver on stage his entry 'Cha Cha Cha'. Kaarija reached Liverpool after winning the Finnish UMK 2023 national final. 

    Born in October 21 the 29 year old Jere Pöyhönen,better known under the stage name Käärijä , is a Finnish rap artist. Käärijä spent most of his youth in Ruskeasanna, Vantaa. He played ice hockey for a long time and the drums, with that, his enthusiasm for making his own music began in 2014. His stage name comes from a joke among friends about rolling money in gambling.

    Käärijä takes to the stage wearing is act fluorescent acid green bolero paired with black slim tight pans. Two female and two male backing dancers dressed in total electric pink join him on stage. His performance delivered in Finnish, begins and unwinds on a wooden box  from which his four dancers come out. A 100% banger songs= that starts with a techno-rap sound to turn into a electro-disco joyful song that we are sure will bring the whole venue on their feet standing and dancing all the way.

    Denmark: Reiley – “Breaking My Heart”

    Time for the Dannish hopeful, Reiley, to rehearse his entry. 'Breaking My Heart'. Reiley secured his spot in the class of 2023 winning the Danish national final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023. 

    Reiley was first introduced to music at the age of six when he began taking piano lessons. His passion for performance came when he was cast in a local production of Grease. His debut single was released in March of 2021. He co-directed the song's accompanying music video. He performed a cover of Smino and Monte Booker's "Kolors" in 2021.

    Reiley delivers his contemporary pop song in a colourful scenery. Similar to the aspect we saw on the official music video of the show he unwinds his performance moving between different colored rooms using LED floor and projected graphics. From a cloudy scenery he takes us to rooms dominated by projected hearts and emojis. A performance conveying a joyful and happy feeling to the audience.

    Armenia: Brunette – ”Future Lover”

    Next up for her first rehearsal is the Armenian delegate, Brunette!. Brunette was internally selected to represent the country with her song 'Future Lover'

    Brunette started singing at four and has been composing since 15. She is the author of the music and lyrics of all his songs. Brunette's songs "Night," "Smoke Break," and "Open your blue eyes" became hits in a short time and recorded millions of views on YouTube.

    Brunettes delivers her sensational paino ballad on a leaning structure in the front part of the stage. During of her performance she cleverly play with swriling lights on the backdrop and switsches from color to color creating a dreamy scenery that fits the melody of her song,

    Romania: Theodor Andrei – “D.G.T. (Off And On)”

    Time to get in a more rock mood with Theodor Andrei from Romania and his song 'D.G.T (Off and On). Theodor achieved to reach Liverpool after winning the Romanian national final.

    Theodor Andrei (born 9 April 2004) is a Romanian singer. Theodor Andrei made himself known by participating in the 2017 talent show Vocea Romaniei Junior, the Romanian version of The Voice Kids, where he reached the semi-finals. In 2020 he took part in the local version of X Factor, where he stopped at bootcamps. His debut album, Fragil, was released in 2022.

    Theodor takes the stage wearing a bright yellow suit. He begins his song in a static calm way sitting with his guitar in adark blue scenrery, with the performance escalating in the energetic performance we saw in the national final as the song progresses. Fire effects on the back LED screen behind accompany the energy his motion brngs on stage.

    Belgium: Gustaph – “Because Of You”

    Second last rehearsal of the day comes from Belgium's Gustaph. Gustaph secured his spot in Eurovision 2023 after winning the national final singing 'Because of you'.

    Stef Caers born 5 July 1980, known professionally as Gustaph (stylised as GVSTΛPH), is a Belgian singer-songwriter, producer and vocal coach.He subsequently released a second single, titled "Sweetest Thing".Following these releases, Caers began focusing more on songwriting and producing.

    Gustaph had performed as a backing vocalist for Sennek at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 and for Hooverphonic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Now it's his time to shine on the Eurovision stage.

    Gustaph takes to the stage in a pink and white outfit joined by three female backing vocalist in black. The staging includes a structure of stairs and a LED screen on the backdrop displaying graphics and messages.

    Cyprus: Andrew Lambrou – “Break A Broken Heart”

    Last but not least for Day 2 rehearsal is Cyrpus' Andrew Lambrou singing to us 'Break a broken heart'. Andrew is coming to Liverpool after been internally selected by the Cypriot national broadcaster. 

    Sydney-based musician Andrew Lambrou with a Greek - Cypriot famlily backgroud. He has been singing since the age of 5 where he discovered his love for music at AMS music school where he learnt to play the piano. At the age of 17 he took part in the X-factor Australia show in 2015 reaching the top-20 acts of the competition.

    Songwriter and singer,  he is no stranger to the Eurovision audience as earlier this year he took part in the Australian national final 'Eurovision 2022: Australia Decides' with the song 'Electrify' which finished 7th in the overall score. Currently the talented act has reached  680,000 followers on Tik Tok and over 480,000 followers on Instagram.

    Andrew takes to the stage dressed in a black sleeveless shirt combines with black trousers. An impressive staging featuring a LED backdrop switching from flame elements to waterfall effects with the addition of dry ice on stage. Last year he took part in the Australian natioanl final with 'Electrify', but it seems that even more this year's passionate performance conveys electrifying vibes to the audience.
