Iceland: Diljá wins Söngvakeppnin 2023 and is off to Eurovision 2023

  • Diljá won the Icelandic national final of Söngvakeppnin 2023 singing Power and will be representing the nation at Eurovision 2023.

    A special committee shorlisted 10 entries out of 132 songs that are competing in the national selection, which consists  of two semifinals and one grand final show. Five acts competed in the previous first and second semi final heats with the public voting to determine two qualifiers from each semi final anda a wildcard pass awarded to one contestant. 

    Tonight the selection concluded with five contestants taking the stage during the grand final show which will be hosted by the musician Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson, tv presenter Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir plus radio producer and music director of RÚV's Channel 2 Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson.

    The Result

    During today's grand  final the result came out through two rounds of voting. In the first round the combined public and jury voting determined which two songs will advance to a Super Final round. The two act that made it to the Superfinal stage were: 

    • Diljá – Power
    • Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – OK

    In the Superfinal round, the Icelandic public exclusively determined the final winner , declaring Diljá with the song Power as the Eurovision 2023 representative. 

    A few words for Dilja

    Diljá Pétursdóttir, known simply as Diljá (Kópavogur, 2002 ...), is an Icelandic singer. Diljá made her name by participating in the talent show Ísland Got Talent in 2015. In 2020 she moved to Copenhagen, where she alternated her studies in physiotherapy with singing lessons.

    Her entry for Eurovision Lifandi inní mér peaked at number 11 in Iceland, while Power peaked at number 29.
