Saturday, 18 June 2022

  • Following EBU's decision that Ukraine will not host Eurovision 2023, the BBC has taken a stand on next year's hosting.

BBC has released a statement regarding next year's Eurovision Song Contest, following EBU's decision that Ukraine will not host the competition in 2023 and they are in talks with BBC in order for the UK to host the 67th edition of the contest.

Specifically the British broadcaster stated on the matter:

We have seen the announcement from the EBU. Clearly these aren’t a set of circumstances that anyone would want. Following their decision, we will of course discuss the BBC hosting the Eurovision Song Contest.

As a result of EBU's decision and the discussions between BBC and EBU underway, a wide number of cities in the UK have expressed their interest in hosting Eurovision 2023.

If the United Kingdom eventually takes over the hosting this will be the fifth time they will be doing it after replacing the Netherlands back in 1960, France in 1963, Monaco in 1972 and Luxembourg in 1974. In addtion they will be the host nation for a ninth tie maitaining their lead as the country that has hosted the contest most times.
