Armenia: Ladaniva to Eurovision 2024

• The artistic duo, Ladaniva, have been confirmed as Armenia's hopefuls for Eurovision 2024 in Malmo, Sweden. 

  The Armenian national broadcaster, APMTV, opted for an iternal selection to determe the nation's Eurovision 2024 representative. 

  Without revealing further details on the internal process followed this year, the broadcaster revealed that Ladaniva will be the country's act for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. 

  The song to be performed my Ladaniva is expected to go public by March 11. 

   

  A few words for Ladaniva

  Ladaniva (named in reference to the off-road SUV Lada Niva) is a French-Armenian world music group originally from Lille. The duo, founded in 2019, consists of Armenian singer Jaklin Baghdasaryan and French multi-instrumentalist Louis Thomas. Their musical style is inspired by music from around the world, particularly traditional Balkan music, maloya and Armenian folklore.

  Ladaniva was formed in 2019 in Lille as a result of the collaboration between singer Jaklin Baghdasaryan and multi-instrumentalist Louis Thomas. Baghdasaryan, born in 1997 in Yeghegnadzor, Armenia, grew up in Minsk, Belarus, before emigrating to France with her mother in 2014. She has been singing since her early childhood and, based in Tourcoing, enrolled at the Conservatoire de Lille. Thomas, born in 1987 in Lille and an accomplished jazz musician from a family of musicians, also attended the conservatory. One evening in 2018, they met by chance during a jam session in a music bar in Vieux-Lille, l'Intervalle.
  

  In March and April 2020, while many countries hit by the COVID-19 pandemic were in lockdown, Ladaniva published two videos, "Vay Aman" and "Zepyuri Nman", which met with great success, particularly with the Armenian community. Then comes their video "Kef Chilini", which reached 18 million views in a few months.In 2023, Ladaniva released their first album, which is self-titled, produced and distributed by PIAS.
  

   

  Armenia in Eurovision

  Armenia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 14 times since making its debut in 2006, when André became the first participant representing Armenia and was the first singer from the Caucasus region to compete at Eurovision.

  Armenia has reached the top 10 on seven occasions, with the country's best result in the contest being two fourth-place finishes; achieved by Sirusho with the song "Qélé, Qélé" (2008), and Aram Mp3 with "Not Alone" (2014). 2011 was the first year that Armenia failed to advance from the semi-final round.

  This was followed by the country withdrawing from the 2012 contest due to security concerns in the host city, Baku. In 2018 and 2019, Armenia consecutively failed to qualify from the semi-finals for the second and third time respectively.

  In 2022 the Armenian national broadcaster, APMTV, internally selected Rosa Linn to fly the flag at Eurovision 2022 who will be performing the song 'Snap' in Turin.  The song qualified to the Grand final where it finished in 20th place. The song went viral afterwards topping the internatiomnal streaming platforms and becoming the second most streamed song in the contest's history.

  Last year Brunette represented the nation with the song 'Future Lover' and finished 14th in the Grand final with a total of 122 points.
