Netherlands: Joost Klein drops his Eurovision 2024 song 'Europapa'

  • The Dutch Eurovision 2024 representative, Joost, has released his entry for Malmo titled 'Europapa'.

    After receiving over 600 submissions, a special committee shorlisted the five candidates for the race to represent Netherlands in Malmö. The five acts went into in-person auditions which durated twenty minutes with the committee, in which they introduced themselves and their song.

    Following the auditions the committee came down to Joost Klein as the next Eurovision representative. Today the Dutch hopeful released his song 'Europapa' along with the official music video. 

    The lyrics  are a letter from Joost to his father who passed away from cancer and told him there are no borders to what you can achieve. Also stong European Union elements demonstrate a clear support to Europe unity. 

     

    A few words for Joost

    Joost Klein, simply known as Joost on home grounds, is a rapper and former YouTuber from Leeuwarden. Earlier this year, the artist openly showed his interest for Eurovision , and Dutch radio programme VoorAan on NPO 3FM created a petition for him to fly to Malmö.

     

    The Netherlands in Eurovision

    The Netherlands has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 61 times since making its debut as one of the seven countries at the first contest in 1956, and has missed only four contests so far (1985, 1991, 1995 and 2002).

    The Netherlands has won the contest four times, with Corry Brokken in 1957, Teddy Scholten in 1959, Lenny Kuhr in a four-way tie in 1969 and Teach-In in 1975,  The country has achieved some remarkable results in the past finishing 4th with Sandra & Andres (1972), 3rd with Mouth & MacNeal (1974), 5th with Maggie MacNeal (1980), 5th with Marcha (1987) and fourth with Edsilia Rombley (1998). Its worst results were in 1958, 1962, 1963, 1968, when it finished last and in 2011 when ending up last in the semifinal.

    In 2022 S10 was internally selected to represent the country with her song 'De Diepte' which after qualifying to the final achieved to finish 11th in the Grand final.

    Last year Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper represented the Netherlands in Eurovision 2023 with “Burning Daylight”. They finished 13th in Semi-Final and didn't make it to the Grand final.
