Slovenia: It's Raiven for Eurovision 2024

  • The Slovenian national broadcaster, RTVSLO, has confirmed Raiven as the act to represent the country at the upcoming Eurovsion Song Contest in Malmo. 

    In a press conference at the Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet, RTVSLO announced Raiven as the act  to fly the Slovenian flag at Eurovision 2024 in Malmo, Sweden. She was internally selected for the contest where she will be performing the song 'Veronica' which will be during a special programme on RTV SLO 1 on January 20.

     

    A few words for Raiven

    Raiven is no stranger to the Eurovision fans as she has attempeted to represent the country in past national finals. Namely, Sara Briški Cirman, better known as Raiven, in 2016 she finished second in EMA, the Slovenian national final for Eurovision with “Črno bel”. She released her debut album “Magenta” in 2017 and won Record of the Year at the Zlata piščal Awards later that year. Her second and thired attempts to represent Slovenia came in 2017 with “Zažarim” and in 2019 with “Kaos”, placing third and second respectively. 

    Her music stands out for its versatility as it combines in harmony the sound of  realms of pop and opera while she defines herself as a mezzo-soprano singer, author, songwriter and harpist.

     

    Slovenia in Eurovision

    Slovenia participated at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with 1X Band and hasn’t won yet the competition. The country’s best results in the contest are the 7th placings, achieved  in 1995 (Darja Svajger) and 2001 (Nusa Derenda).

    Slovenia has competed 27 times in the contest since their debut in 1993, and has only missed out the contests of 1994 and 2000 when it had to stay out of the event due to the rules of the competition at that time. 

    In the 2022 edition in Turin LPS won the EMA national final with their song 'Disko' which last in their semi final failing to reach the Grand final show. 

    Last year internally selected band Joker Out represented the country with 'Carpe Diem' which finsihed 21st in the Grand final.
