Estonia: Uku Suviste wins Eesti Laul 2021 and is off to Rotterdam!

  • Estonia has decided! Uku Suviste is back in the game after winning the Eesti Laul 2021 national final and will be representing the country in Rotterdam next May singing "The Lucky One"

    After two semi final shows the 12 qualifiers (six from each semi final)  gave their final battle for the right to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam.

    The final took place in Tallin at the Saku Suurhall without audience due to the covid-19 restrictions.The show was hosted by  Tonis Niinemets and Grete Kuld.

    The 12 contestants that took to the stage in the following running order were:

    1. Egert Milder – Free Again”
    2. Suured Tüdrukud – “Heaven’s Not That Far Tonight”
    3. Hans Nayna – “One By One”
    4. Ivo Linna, Robert Linna, Supernova -“Ma olen siin”
    5. Karl Killing –“Kiss Me”
    6. Uku Suviste – “The Lucky One”
    7. Sissi – “Time”
    8. Jüri Pootsmann – “Magnus melanhoolia”
    9. Redel – “Tartu”
    10. Koit Toome –“We Could Have Been Beautiful”
    11. Andrei Zevakin & Pluuto – “Wingman”
    12. Kadri Voorand – “Energy”

     

    The Result

    The result wasdetermined by two rounds of voting. In the first round public voting and the jury's votes had a 50% share in selecting the three acts that will move on to a Superfinal round. In this round the jury voting came in first and turned as pictured below:

    However once the Public voted was added in, these were the three acts that advanced to the superfinal stage were: 

    Jüri Pootsmann – “Magnus melanhoolia”

    Uku Suviste – “The Lucky One”

    Sissi – “Time”

     

    During the superfinal round the final winner and next Estonian Eurovision act was selected exclusively by televoting. According to the public's verdict Uku Suviste was crowned winner and will represent Estonia at the 65th edition fo the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam next May. Here are how the final ranking came out: 

    1. Uku Suviste – The Lucky One”
    2. Sissi – “Time”
    3. Jüri Pootsmann – “Magus melanhoolia”

     

    Uku Suviste in Eurovision 

    Uku won the Estonian national final back in February with his entry “What Love Is” and along with it the right to reprsent Estonian at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam. Unfortunately the contest never took place cause of the coronavirus pandemic leaving Uku’s ESC journey incomplete.

    Before winning this year's national final Suviste had competed in Eesti Laul several times in the past. In Eesti Laul 2017 he competed with the song "Supernatural", but was eliminated in the first semi-final. Suviste participated in Eesti Laul 2019, with the song "Pretty Little Liar". He made it through the second semi-final, and placed second in the final.
