Switzerland: The National broadcaster kicks off song selection process for Eurovision 2021

  • Not long after this year’s unprecedent cancellation of Eurovision 2020 and while the next contest is a year away , Switzerland has kicked off the song selection process for Eurovision 2021.

    The Swiss broadcaster SRG, SSR gearing up things for next year's preparations. Just after the contest was cancelled the broadcasters announced that they will be stiicking with Gjon Muharremaj (aka Gjon’s Tears) for Eurovision 2021, giving him the chance to complete his Eurovision journey that was interrupted this year.

     

     

    Song Selection without an open invitation

    Following the EBU’s decision not to allow the ESC 2020 entries to compete in the 2021 contest SRG SSR has kicked off the search of the song for Gjon’s Tears. The Swiss broadcaster won’t be making an open call to songwriters but plans to hold songwriting sessions with selected songwriters and producers from the country and the rest of the world.

    All entries should be submitted by September 20 and can be in any language. Following the submission period the songs will be evalutated by a 100-member audience panel and a 20-member jury of international experts while the Swiss hopeful himself won’t express his opinion on the selected song.

    This year Gjon’s Tears was selected to defend the Swiss colors in Rotterdam with his song Répondez-moi, written by Gjon himself, as well as Xavier MichelAlizé Oswald and Jeroen Swinnen. The French song however didn’t ever make it to Rotterdam  as the contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
