Albania: RTSH confirms Eurovision 2022 participation and commences Festivali i Këngës 60 process

RTSH, the Albanian national broadcaster, has confirmed that they will be taking part in Eurovision 2022 in Italy and has opened the sumbission window for the 60th Festivali i Kenges.
Albania will be joinign the party in Italy next year as RTSH has confirmed that they will participating in Eurovision 2022 and have already opened the submissions for the 60th edition of Festivali i Kenges, the show through which the country has been using as their national selection format to determine the nation's Eurovision acts and entries since 2004.
Interested acts and composers are able to send their application in person at the RTSH headquarters or via email to [email protected]. RTSH has released the rules for the next edition according to which the applicants should comply with. To participate in the selection is required:
- The final version of the song to be performed
- The final version of the song with the orchestra, with and without back vocals
- Vocal score of the song and reflection of the text in each mass
- Score of the song for execution by the symphony orchestra and the Festival band
- Version of the song in MIDI File that "connects" instruments with devices that produce and control music
- Full text of the song.
- Photo and profile / biography of the singer or group including other activities, awards and specials.
The show usually takes place in late December and runs over three nights with two semi final rounds and a gran final show that determined the Albanian Eurovision representtive.
Albania in Eurovision
In 2004 Albania participated for the first time in the contest with Anjeza Shahini and the entry “The Image of You”, which came 7th . The country hasn’t scored a victory yet in its 16 participations up to date. Its best result was achieved in 2012 with Rona Nishliu and her 5th placing in Baku with her song “Suus”.
In 2019 Jonida Maliqi won the Festivali i Kenges 2018 and became the 16th Albanian representative in Eurovision. Her song Ktheju Tokes ended in the 17th place of the Grand final. In 2020 Arilena Ara won the national final and was set to perform her song Fall From Skyon the Eurovision stage in Rotterdam, but saw her journey end early, due to the coronavirus outbreak as the contest was cancelled .
This year, Anxhela Peristeri, won the 59th edition ofFestivali i Kenges with her song "Karma" and went on representing the nation in Rotterdam, where after qualifying to the final she finished 21st with a total of 57 points.
