Croatia: Dora 2022 voting format announced

  • The Croatian national broadcaster, HRT, has unveiled the voting format of the country's national final, Dora 2022, based on which the next Eurovision representative will be selected. 

    Croatia will be selecting their Eurovision 2022 hopeful through the tradional event of  Dora 2022, set for for February 19, 2022. A total of 14 acts will compete in the national final the outcome of which will be determined by the voting format confirmed  by HRT. 

     

    THE VOTING FORMAT

    The final results will be influenced by a combination of public voting and regional jury voting, contributing 50% each to the result. In case of a tie the acts that tops the public voting will be the final winner. 

     

    Jury Voting

    The jury voting will include the points from 10 regional juries which are: 

    • Zagreb
    • Čakovec and Varaždin
    • Rijeka
    • Pula
    • Osijek
    • Zadar
    • Knin and Šibenik
    • Split
    • Dubrovnik
    • Vukovar

    Each  of these juries is formed by three members; one HRT employee (realted to music editing or a music journalist), one member of Croatian Composers’ Association and one member of the Croatian Music Union . Each member of the regional jury will rank the songs from 1st to 14th place during the dress rehearsal set to take place on February 18, one day before the live national final. All rankings will be added up with the first ten acts to be awarded with points according to the ESC voting scale  (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12). With each regional awarding up to 58 points the total amount of jury votes at stake is 580.

     

    Public voting

    The public can contribute in the result by casting their vote through phone calls to 065 22 44 (+number of their favorite act) or an sms to 60006 (Dora 2022+number of favorite act). Televoters can vote for the same act up to 10 times, while the whole puclic voting will durate 10 minutes. 

    A total of 580 points are at stake in the public voting with the points awarded to each competing act in accordance with the percentage of votes received. 

     

    The participants

    A total of 14 acts and songs will compete in this year's Dora national final: 

    1. Mia Negovetić – “Forgive Me (Oprosti)”
    2. Mia Dimšić – “Guilty Pleasure”
    3.  Bernarda – “Here for Love”
    4.  Tina Vukov – “Hideout”
    5. Erik Vidović – “I Found You”
    6. Ella Orešković – “If You Go Away”
    7. ToMa – “In the Darkness”
    8. Mila  Elegović – “Ljubav” (Love)
    9. Roko Vušković – “Malo kasnije” (A little later)
    10. Marko Bošnjak – “Moli za nas” (Pray for us)
    11. Jesse – “My Next Mistake”
    12. Elis Lovrić – “No War”
    13. Zdenka Kovačiček – “Stay on the Bright Side”
    14. Tia – “Voli me do neba” (Love me to heaven)

    In addition four back-up entries have been chosen in case their is a sudden withdrawal or one of the competing acts is out if covid-19 positive. Those are: 

    1. Karlo Vudrić – “3AM”
    2. Vlatka Burić Dujmović Vyan – “Gladiator”
    3. Totalni Optimizam – “What If”
    4. Stella Scholaja – “Ghost”

    In case five or more performers withdraw after February 1, their song will be withdrawn and the phone number for their song will become inactive. Also in case an act is found positive after the dress rehearsal, the candidate will not withdraw but the video tape from his dress rehearsal performance will he used during the national final live show. 

     

    The national final of Dora 2022 is set to take place on February 19,  at Opatija City and will be hosted by the trio, Duško Ćurlić, Elizabeta Brodić and Franka Batelić. 

     

    Croatia in Eurovision 

    Croatia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with the group Put and their entry Don’t ever cry.  In 1996 Maja Blagdan and in 1999 Doris Dragovic, finished in 4th place in the Grand Final, marking the country’s best results so far in the competition.

    In 2018 Croatia selected internally Franka Batelic to represent the country in Lisbon with her song Crazy. Despite her dynamic performance she failed to qualify to the Grand Final. In 2019, Croatia determined its Eurovision act through the return of national selection “Dora”.  Roko won Dora 2019 and represented Croatia at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with his entry The Dream. Despite his amazing vocal performance the Croatian artist didn’t make it to the final.

    In 2020 Damir won the national final with his entry "Divlji Vjetre" but never had the chanece to perform on the Eurovision stage in Rotterdam as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic.

    This year HRT opted again for 'Dora' as the country's national selection format, which saw Albina triumphed with her song Tik-Tok. Despite her energetic performance on stage in Rotterdam in the 1st semi final , Albina didn't make it to the Grand final show.
