EBU: Madrid to host the 90th assembly in June 2023

  • The Spanish national broadcaster, RTVE, has announced that they will be hosting EBU's 90th Assembly next June 2023 in Madrid. 

    While last week the 89th assembly of EBU took place in Dubrovnik in Croatia, the next one is set to be held in Madrid, Spain as RTVE has officially confirmed

    During the assembly the general directors and the heads of international relations from 56 countries will be attending the event. In 2020 and 2021 the 84th - 87th assemblies took place virtually due to the covid-19 pandeic and restrictions. Active and associated members of the organizations are eligible to take part. 

     

    A few words for EBU

    The European Broadcasting Union (EBU; French: Union européenne de radio-télévisionUER) is an alliance of public service media organisations whose countries are within the European Broadcasting Area (EBA) or who are members of the Council of Europe. t was established in 1950, and had its administrative headquarters in Geneva and technical office in Brussels.

    It counts today 68 active members in 56 countries and 30 associate members in 19 countries. Members guide the EBU's direction in a number of ways. They are entitled to vote at the EBU's General Assembly and in EBU elections. They are encouraged to participate in EBU Committees and Assemblies and nominate candidates for EBU bodies such as the Sports Committee, News Committee, Legal & Policy Committee, Television Committee, Radio Committee and Technical Committee. Members also enjoy all the benefits of EBU membership including participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, access to know-how, networking, training from the EBU Academy, and access to the News Exchange and Sports acquisitions if they contribute to these services.

    The EBU’s Belarusian Member was suspended from the Union in May 2021. The EBU’s Russian Members were suspended from the Union in May 2022.
