Eurostream 2020: Iceland wins the contest with Daði og Gagnamagnið

  • Iceland  with Daði og Gagnamagnið won the grand final of Eurostream 2020 , the alternative online contest run by fans and media outlets.

     

    EUROSTREAM 2020

    The 2020 Eurovision edition has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Depsite the unprecedent decision, a group of Eurovision fan media outlets deicided to run an alternative online version of the contest : Eurostream 2020! The sites that have collaborated for the project are: 12 Points From America, Aussievision, Ding-a-Dong Podcast, ESCDaily, escgo!, ESC Insight, ESCKAZ, ESC Nation, ESC Plus, ESCplus España, EuroVisionary, Eurovision Union, Eurovision Universe, evrovizija.rs/ESCSerbia,ScoreWIZ, Songfestival.be, Songfestivalforum.nl, Songfestivalweblog.nl, The EuroWhat? Podcast , XAZ.

     

    THE FORMAT

    Eurostream 2020 included the 41 competing countries that were to take part in this year’s cancelled Eurovision Song Contest. The competition released entirely online  consisted of three parts of live streaming , on 5, 7 and 9 May, resembling to the ESC format.  The 41 countries were split up in two semi final heats that took place on  5 and 7 May according to the draw allocation taken place back in January. 10 countries from each semi final qualified to last evening  Grand final, where they joined the ESC 2020 host country, The Netherlands, and the Big-5 countries ( France, UK, Spain, Italy, Germany), just exactly as in real Eurovision.

     

    THE GRAND FINAL

    The grand final hit our screens on Youtube last evening and featured snippets of the ESC 2020 entries, as they can’t be broadcasted in their full version due to copyright law, followed by the jury voting and the online fan voting. In last eveniing's final we saw the a total of 26 countries compete in the following running order:

     

    THE RESULTS

    A body of 41 juries influenced the 50% of the result while the fan voting determined the rest 50% of the outcome. Regarding the members of the juries you can check out the people that formed the Eurostream’s juries HERE. The votes from fans were not presented from each country separately, but the televoting unfolded with the points awarded to each country depending on the percentage it got in the overall fan voting, as it happens in Junior Eurovision. The fans were able to cast their votes via a online window for voting that opened  12:00pm CET and  closed during the show . 

    Firstly the 41 juries announced their votes. Iceland achieved to top the jury voting while in 2nd place came Sweden followed by Malta in 3rd place. The scoreboard once the jury voted were all added in looked like that:

    Once the jury voting was completed the televoting results were added to the jury's one. Iceland won the televoting too leaving behind Belgium in 2nd place and Lithuania in 3rd. This his how the overall final scoreboard looked like after the televoting results was added:
