Eurovision 2021: A number of delegations to film their live on-tape performance in Vilnius
-
It seems that several delegations will be traveling to Lithuania next month in order to film their live on-tape performances for Eurovision 2021.
According to EBU's plans for this year's contest, the 41 countries should make a pre recorded live on-tape performance of their entries that they must submit by late March in order to guarantee their participation in case the delegation is unable to travel to Rotterdam due to restrictions or a quarantine in their countries.
NDR's Head of Entertainment ,Thomas Schreiber, has revealed that a several countries intend to travel to Vilnius in order to record their live on-tape performances for the Eurovision Song Contest. The recording will take place at the Ice Hockey venue or aka Ice Palace which at the moment is not used for any activities due to the covid-19 pandemic. The German delegation will travel in the first day of March, because according to Schreiber the cost of such a performance is rather higher in Germany with the setting up of the stage than using the one in Vilnius.
The local company, Creative Industries, has booked the building to set up a sufficient in size stage that can serve the purpose of an Eurovision performance. However, which exactly delegation will be travelling to Vilnius remains unknown with Norway being up to date the only country to have filmed its on-tape performace.
With the covid-19 restrictions still around the EBU hasn't yet decided which of the three scenarios will follow for the next Eurovision Song Contest and it might take some time to finalise such decisions. In all cases the 41 competing countries are bound to hand in by end of March their back up performances so that all potential scenarios remain feasible, no matter when the final decisions are taken.
The 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place on May 18,20 and 22 , 2021 in Rotterdam.
