Iceland: One of the acts found covid-19 positive; Daði og Gagnamagnið will not perform live in the Semi final 2 show

  • The Icelandic hopefuls,  Daði og Gagnamagnið will not perform live in the Semi final 2 show as one of the group members was tested covid-19 positive.

Bad luck has stroke the Icelandic delegation as in a couple of days the had a second covid-19 case this time for one of the group members. Following the Safety Heath Protocol the whole delegatiion must stay in quarantine and they will unfortunately be missing out their live performance for the second semi final where they were set to compete 8th the show.

The EBU has released a press release regarding the latest covid-19 case in the Icelandinc delegation and what that means by stating the following:

Following a positive test for COVID-19 amongst the Icelandic delegation on Sunday 16 May, the whole team has been in quarantine and undergone PCR testing (on 16 and 19 May).

Today (Wednesday 19 May) a member of the Icelandic group Daði og Gagnamagnið also tested positive for COVID-19. The rest of the delegation has again tested negative for COVID-19.

In close collaboration with the EBU and the host broadcaster, Daði og Gagnamagnið have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from performing in this year’s live Eurovision Song Contest shows, as they only want to perform together as a group. Their song will remain in the competition and we will broadcast their rehearsal performance, recorded on the stage on 13 May.

The Icelandic delegation will remain in quarantine and be monitored by the Health Authorities.

We wish them all the best and will provide further updates in due course.

This is such sad news for Iceland's representatives which are one of the top 10 favorites in this year's competition and who eventually miss out the moment they have been waiting for almost two years.
