The EBU along with the three Dutch host broadcasters have confirmed today the dates for the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The Grand final show will take place on May 22 at Rotterdam Ahoy.
Let the countdown begin! The dates of the next Eurovision Song Contest are out urgng the fans to schedule their plans for Eurovision week. The EBU along with the three Dutch host boradcasters, AVROTROS, NOS, NPO, have confirmed that the Eurovision 2021 Grand final is scheduled for May 22,2020 while the two semi finals will take place on May 18 and 20.
Martin Osterdahl (Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor) says:
"It’s vitally important that the Eurovision Song Contest returns next year, and we’re pleased to have the necessary commitment from our Members in The Netherlands to bring this much-loved show back to audiences across the world."
Sietse Bakker (Eurovision 2021 Executive Producer Event) says:
"The music, the artists, the fans, the competition and the international character combined is what makes the Eurovision Song Contest so special. We now have a year to explore all scenarios in detail with the parties involved and to make the shows happen regardless of the circumstances, with adjustments if necessary. We still aim high!
The stage will be carried over to next year, because that was already prepared. Apart from that, a lot depends on what is possible at that time, on the availability of all those involved and on what fits the spirit of 2021."
The Netherlands have hosted the contest four times in the past , Hilversum (1958), Amsterdam (1970), The Hague (1976/1980).
Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was set to take place on May , 12,14 and 16 May but unfortunately due to the covid-19 outbreak it was cancelled. The participating countries have the right to keep their hopefuls for next year or select new ones while all 2020 entries are not eligible to compete in next year's competition as all contestants must proceed with new songs.
