Eurovision 2022: Jesolo's bid for hosting the ESC 2022 contest

Eurovision 2022: Jesolo's bid for hosting the ESC 2022 contest
Tuesday, 13 July 2021

  • Jesolo is among the 17 cities that have submitted their application of interest in hosting next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Italy.

Jesolo , one of the most renowned seaside tourist spots in Italy and part of the metropolitan city of Venice with with 26,000 inhabitants. The candidacy, come as a result of  the interest by the JesoloVenice Tourist Company Consortium and the the support by the mayor of Jesolo, Valerio Zoggia and the municipal administration.

Luigi Pasqualinotto , president of JesoloVenice Consortium mentioned about the city's candidacy:

"Jesolo is a city with an international vocation, used to hosting and organizing large events. I remember that, if we look at the last few years, in Jesolo we have had events such as the Beach Bum Rock Festival, Miss Italia, the Full Moon Dj Superstar, the Air Show (the largest and most important civil air show), the Coca Cola event. Live Mtv… until the Ironman that we will have in September, in a region often home to world-class events, such as the Cortina Olympics.

So, in addition to having structures and receptivity, we have always shown that we have a great organizational machine, in an excellent combination of public and private. We believe that the whole city, due to its international vocation and its organizational skills, can and should aim for this type of event capable of having a breath that goes far beyond national borders."

    And goes on adding:

" Regarding the requirements we are aware of the difficulty of competing with other candidacies, but we are also aware of being able to fully count on an important hotel accommodation (with 370 hotels) and on the proximity to two airport hubs, the Marco Polo in Venice and the Canova Treviso, which are respectively 30 and 45 minutes from our city.

As for the location, in addition to PalaInvent and the possibility of implementing synergies with the territory, Jesolo can put on the table of proposals a unique location of its kind: the lighthouse area (where international musical events have been held, such as the 'Mtv and the Full Moon Dj Superstar), which can hold up to 15 thousand people with adequate spacing , in a unique and extraordinary atmosphere that is difficult to replicate in other realities."

    The potential venue

Jesolo city amibiton to host the contest at the PalaInvent also known as Palazzo del Turismo, and in the past also as PalaArrex, hosted several editions of Miss World, as well as two of Miss Italy competitions in 2013 and 2019. It also hosted several prominent artists' concerts  including Emma Marrone, Laura Pausini and Giorgia .

The problem with this proposal is related to the capacity: the venue can house circa 4,000 spectactors which are far less then the EBU requirements for the venue's capacity. The bid also proposes using the outdoor lighthouse area, which is also doesn't meet EBU's conditions that specify that the venue must have a roof and contest held indoors.
