Eurovision 2022: Piazza San Carlo reported as Eurovillage's possible location

  • According to local media reports Piazza San Carlo is the place where the Eurovillage of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest will be located. 

    Following the annoucement of the ESC 2022 host city, which brought Turin in the spotlight as the competition's next host city, several reports are trying to shed light on the locations in which the ESC 2022 side events will unfold.

    With RAI and EBU yet to determine the locations for the Press center, the Euroclub and the Opening Ceremony with the Red Carpet, the media have already talking on the potential spot of the Eurovillage. Piazza San Carlo seems to the reportedly potential place for the Eurovillage, a location that it has hosted similar major events in the past. 

     

    Piazza San Carlo 

    Piazza San Carlo is one of the main city squares in Turin, Italy. It was laid out in the 16th and 17th century and is an example of Baroque style. Its current name is an hommage to Charles Borromeo while the square was previously known as Piazza Reale, Piazza d'Armi, and Place Napoleon.

    The Caval 'd brons (piedmontese for bronze horse), equestrian statue of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, by Carlo Marochetti (1838), is located at the center of the square, that is surrounded by porticos designed by Carlo di Castellamonte around 1638. The twin churches of Santa Cristina and San Carlo Borromeo are close to the southern edge of the square.

    The square has become a normal stage of different historical and social events, including election rallies, concerts, events, live TV ,like the 2006 Winter Olympics and Juventus matches.

     

    The Eurovision Village

    The Eurovision Village is the official 'fan zone' of the Eurovision Song Contest. Various (Song Contest) artists will play their music here. Everyone is welcome! The entrance is free of charge. 

    Usually it opens its gates circa 10 days before the Grand final show. The Eurovision Village features multi fan activities, compeittions, themed parties, ESC stars concerts and its visitors can have a taste of local food and specialties. 

    In addition the Eurovillage features giant screens on which the fans and visitors are able to watch the three live shows of the contest. 

    However, with the covid-19 pandemic still around and several measure still implemented EBU and RAI will assess the circusmstances and adjust their Eurovision village plac in accordance to the essential safety protocols. Last year due to the covid-10 restirctions and measures the Eurovision Village 2021 took place virtually.

    The 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place on May 10,12, and 14, 2021 at Turin's Pala Alpitour Arena.
