Eurovision 2022: RAI reveals the impressive stage design
-
The Eurovision 2022 host broadcaster, Italy's RAI, has unveiled the impressive stage design of this year's Eurovision Song Contest set to take place in Turin.
The Italian national broadcaster has shed light on the design of the stage on which the 41 delegates will deliver their competing entries the coming May.
If one phrase can descibe the whole concept of the stage that is The Sun Within! The stage via which RAI ambitions to offer a spectacular Eurovision show is modern and inspired by the sun, combined with and Italian garden and the element of water.
Behind the stage desing is Francesca Montinaro who is widely known to the public for having innovated the concept of scenography in Italian television, having designed the scenes of the most important Italian television broadcasts. His scenic projects can be defined as real emotional places , as certainly was the "worn backdrop" of the stage of the Sanremo 2013 Festival which broke the custom of the glittering and "television" scene by exhibiting instead a torn, inspired backdrop to Alberto Burri. She was also behind the Sanremo 2019 stage.

Francesca is successing Florian Wieder who has been responsible for the stage designs of all the editions of the Eurovision Song Contest since 2017 up to 2021. Francesca says explaining the inspirations and thought behind the stage design:
For the concept, the designer was inspired partly by the Italian character:
"The kinetic sun, source of spectacular movements and tricks of light, rules the stage and represents our Italian attitude: always on the move, rebellious, creative, welcoming, passionate, intuitive. We are the ones with the sun within, and this is our way to be in this world.'
Taking into account the hospitality of the Italian people and the objective of welcoming the delegations across the continent she say:
'The cascade of water that frames the stage, allegorically represents the sea that surrounds us, a symbol of our complex culture. The stage is our peninsula: a country where each contestant is welcomed, no matter where they are coming from.'
And she concludes by saying about the scenery she is setting up for the delegations:
'The artists and their teams will be hosted in a lush Italian garden, where vegetation mingles with rays of light, suspended between reality and illusion, transporting them to a playful and architectural dimension.'

The 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place on May 10,12 and 14 at the Pala Olympico in Turin, Italy.
