Eurovision 2022: The story behind the theme art and the slogan "The sound of beauty"

-
RAI and EBU have shared more details on the story behind the theme art of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest and the slogan 'The sound of beauty'.
Following the release of the official Eurovision 2022 slogan and theme art, the organisers of the contest went on shedding more light on the story and inspirations behind "The sound of beauty".
Eurovision 2022 theme is a visual representation of The Sound of Beauty. In order to represent the word sound and its visual properties, the design is based on the symmetrical structure and patterns of cymatics – the study of sound wave phenomena.
The word cymatics comes from the Greek word 'κύμα' (kima) which means 'wave'. The Swiss scientist, Hans Jenny, back in the 60's held a number of experiments in which he operated accoustic sound vibrations to a metal sheet with fine powders on it. The patterns that came out in accordance with the result the sound vibrations caused, inspired this year's Eurovision theme art.
In addition the Italian Garden (o ‘Giardini all’Italiana’) was one of the main inspirations for the design, the structure of which are quite similar to the cymatics patterns.
Further on the typography of the slogan has been ispired by Arsenica , a serif typeface designed by Francesco Canovaro for Zetafonts, and developed by a design team including Mario De Libero, Andrea Tartarelli and Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini. Arsenica was inspired by the typogrpahy on Italian advertising posters in the beginning of the 20th centruy.
Adding it all up, cymatic patters, Italian Garden, the typogrphy of 'Aresenica' along with the sun are the element that inspired this year's visualization of the slogan "The sound of beauty".
