Eurovoision 2023 hosting: Manchester's politicians in favor of a bid to host Eurovision

  • Politicians of Manchester are coming forward supporting a potential bid to host Eurovision 2023. 

    Local leaders and official from Manchester city are promoting the city's bid to host the 67th edition of Eurovision, following EBU's decision to take away the hosting from this year's winner, Ukraine, due to the security issues the was is creating and starting talks with UK's BBC. 

    Thus Manchester seems to be joining the list of cities that are interested in hosting next year's contest. Following Leeds, Glasgow and Liverpool, the local politicians are strongly supporting Manchester's potential bid. Namely, Leader of the City of Manchester Bev Craig has openly expressed his support through the social media to the city's bid. In addition, Sacha Lord Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester is one more local official in favor of such option. 

    Officially, the city of Manchester hasn't confimred whether they will submit a bid to host next year's competition.

    Manchester is a city in Greater Manchester, England, with a population of more than two million in 2018, it is the second largest city by urban area in the United Kingdom.

    Potential venue: Its main pop music venue is Manchester Arena or recently refferred to as AO Arena, voted "International Venue of the Year" in 2007.With over 21,000 seats, it is the second largest arena of its type in Europe.In terms of concertgoers, it is the busiest indoor arena in the world, ahead of Madison Square Garden in New York and The O2 Arena in London, which are second and third busiest. 

     

    Transportation: The city has one of the most extensive bus networks outside London, with over 50 bus companies operating in the Greater Manchester region radiating from the city. In 2011, 80 per cent of public transport journeys in Greater Manchester were made by bus.

    Manchester Airport serves Manchester, Northern England and North Wales. The airport is the third busiest in the United Kingdom, with over double the number of annual passengers of the next busiest non-London airport.

     

    Accommodation: The city has a big number of hotels and places to house the thousand of visitors coming to the city throught the year. The night-time economy of Manchester has expanded significantly since about 1993, with investment from breweries in bars, public houses and clubs, along with active support from the local authorities.The more than 500 licensed premises in the city centre have a capacity to deal with more than 250,000 visitors,with 110,000–130,000 people visiting on a typical weekend night,making Manchester the most popular city for events at 79 per thousand people.

     

    The final decision for the hosting city of Eurovision 2023 is expected sometime between August and October.
