Georgia: Tornike Kipiani releases his song for Eurovision 2021

  • The Georgian Eurovision 2021 act,  Tornike Kipiani, has released his song for Rotterdam titled "You".

    Tornike Kipiani will sing "You" at Eurovision 2021. The song is a mix of rock, pop-rock and blues-rock. The lyrics of the entry are about the universal topic of love. Tornike wrote and composed "You" himself. The Georgian star then arranged the song in in Bravo Records Studio alongside Aleko Berdzenishvili. In addition to Tornike's vocals, the Gori Girls' Choir, Aleko Berdzenishvili, Marian Shengelia and Mariko Lezhava also took part in the recording of the song.


    The music video of "You" has been directed by Temo Kvirkvelia. Filming for the video took place in a number of different locations. Ballet dancer Mariam Aleksidze choreographed a dance especially for the music video and her troupe will feature in the video. The design of the dancers' costumes was done by Keti Chkhikvadze.


    Tornike's stage performance at Eurovision 2021 will be directed by Emilia Sandquist - she was previously set to be the stage director for Tornike last year as well. Emilia is an international creative who has dreamed up successful performances in the past for Swedish artists at Melodifestivalen. She is also a member of the Jean Baptiste Group.

     

    A Few words for Tornike

    Tornike Kipiani was born 11 December 1987 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He is a 32-year-old musician, the father of 3 children and a professional architect. When he founded his own band at age 19, he didn't even consider becoming a vocalist. While Tornike and his bandmates looked for an additional member to fill that vacant spot, he took that spot. The rest is history.

    In 2014, Tornike won the first season of X Factor Georgia, where his mentor was the future Georgian-Greek Cyprus Eurovision star, Tamta. In 2017, Tornike tried to represent Georgia at Eurovision with the industrial techno song, You Are My Sunshine. In 2019, he returned to Georgian Idol and  won the competition earning the right to represent Georgia at the 65th Eurovision Song Contest scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Unfortunately, the contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak depriving Kipiani of the chance to perform on Rotterdam Ahoy’s stage.Tornike would have represented Georgia performing “Take me as i am. 

     

    Georgia in Eurovision

    Georgia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest first time in 2007 with Sopho Khalvashi and her song Visionary dream . Since then it has competed 11 times missing out only the 2009 edition of the contest, when they chose to withdraw. Its best results were scored in Oslo with Sofia Nizharadze and her song Shine(2010) and Dusseldorf with Eldrine and the entry One More Day (2011) when both achieved a 9th placing in the Grand Final.

    In 2018 the Ethno Jazz Band Iriao were internally selected to represent the country in Lisbon with their entry For you. For a second year in a row Georgia failed to qualify to the grand final. In 2019 in Tel Aviv the nation was Oto Nemsadze with his song "Keep on Going" which didn't make it either to the final.
