Germany: It's Ben Dolic with “Violent Thing” for Εurovision 2020
The German broadcaster,NDR, has revealed that Ben Dolic will sing “Violent Thing” representing Germany in the 65th Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam next May.
Thomas Schreiber, Head of Entertainment at NDR,had confirmed the previous weeks that the German entry for Eurovision 2020 had already been selected since December 12th. The act was selected by two juries that held a number of votings. One jury was made up by music experts that had already voted in the past in Eurovision. The second jury, named Eurovision-Jury, consisted of 100 Eurovision fans representing the televoting trend.
Thus, Ben Dolic is Germany’s hopeful for Eurovision 2020 and he will be performing the song “ Violent thing”. The track is written by Austrian-Bulgarian producer and songwriter Boris Milanov and his team. Milanov was born in Sofia in 1983. He is the founder of the international music label Symphonix, with which he mainly promotes young and up-and-coming talents. Milan has been behind major Eurovision hits the last four years such as, Kristian Kostov’s “Beautiful Mess” (2nd place -Bulgaria 2017), Cesár Sampson’s “Nobody But You” (3rd place- Austria 2018) and Poli Genova’s “If Love Was a Crime”(4th place – Bulgaria 2016) .
ABOUT BEN DOLIC
Ben Dolic was born on 4 May 1997 and grew up in Slovenia. At age 12 he reached the semi-final of Slovenia’s Got Talent. Throughout his years in high school, Dolic became part of the group D Base. They went on to take part in Slovenia’s EMA in 2016, but were eliminated.
At the age of 18 he moved with his family to Switzerland in order to progress his voal skills. Ben Dolic came to fame in Germany with his participation in The Voice in 2018. At his blind audition, he performed a cover of Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry”. He achieved to finish at second place, behind the winner Samuel Rösch, with Yvonne Catterfeld’ team. He attended the The Voice live tour across Germany and Austria. His latest work is music under the project Most recently, Usually Quiet, which features songs with electronic elements.
The Eurovision 2020 staging for Ben Dolic’s performance in Rotterdam Ahoy is been looked after by the American choreographer Marty Kudelka, who has already been awarded the MTV Video Music Award twice for his dance shows for Justin Timberlake.

The Eurovision story so far
Germany is one of the Big-5 countries and qualify in Eurovision directly in the final. The country has participated in every edition of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1956, with one year’s exception back in 1996. The country has won the competition twice, namely in 1982 and 2010.
In 2018 Germany placed 4th in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with Michael Schulte‘s You let me walk alone , while in 2019 the duo Sisters represented the country and finished second last in the 25th place of the grand final.
