Germany: NDR unveils the six competing acts of the national final

  • German broadcaster  NDR has unveiled the six acts and entries to compete in the German national final 'Germany 12 points' , the selection show for Eurovision 2022. 

    Germany will be determining their Eurovision 2022 hopefuls via the national final "Germany 12 points' which is set to take place on March 4, in Berlin. 

    A total of 944 applications were received for this year's national selection. An ESC expert jury with seven members shorlisted six acts that will be competing for the right to represent Germany at Eurovision 2022 in Turin. 

    The six competing act are: 

    1. Emily Roberts - Soap

    Composition & Lyrics : Emily Roberts, Andreas Öhrn, Didrik Thott, Simon Wangemann

     

    2. Eros Atomus - alive

    Composition & Lyrics: Eros Atomus, Marcel Zürcher, Eike Freese

     

    3. Felicia Lu - Anxiety

    Composition & Lyrics: Felicia Lu Pumpkin

     

    4. Maël & Jonas – I swear to god

    Composition & Lyrics: Jonas Brochhausen, Maël Brunner

     

    5. Malik Harris - Rock Stars

    6. Nico Suave & Team Love - Hello World

    Composition: Toni Mudrack, Nico Suave, Dominik Köhl, Joshua Stolten, Volker Neumüller / Lyrics : Toni Mudrack, Jan Dettwyler, Nico Suave, Buket Kocatas, Niklas Esterle, Volker Neumüller

     

    Following the presentation of the songs on eurovision.de, on Monday, February 28th an online voting will commence . From that day on, users can choose their favorites candidate presented in the online performances of the nine ARD pop waves.

    On March 4 the show "Germany 12 points" will be broadcast with the candidate acts presenting on stage their songs with the audience having a last chance to cast its votes. The show will host Barbara Schöneberger. The final outcome and who will represent Germany in Turin will be determined by online, SMS and phone voting.

     

    Germany in Eurovision

    Germany is one of the  Big-5 countries and qualifies directly to the Eurovision Grand final. The country has participated in every edition of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1956, with one year’s exception back in 1996.  The country has won the competition twice, namely in 1982 and 2010.

    In 2018 Germany placed 4th in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with Michael Schulte‘s  You let me walk alone , while in 2019 the duo Sisters represented the country and finished second last in the 25th place of the grand final.

    Ben Dolic was internally selected to represent Germany at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam with his entry Violent Thing. Unfortunately young act never had the chance to complete his Eurovision journey as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic.

    This year Jendrick Sigwart defended the German colors in Rotterdam with his song 'I don't feel hate'. Jendrik finished 25th in the final, marking Germany's second in a row 2nd last placing, receiving only 3 points from the juries and zero points from the public voting.
