Greece: ERT will not return to Junior Eurovision in 2021

  • The Greek national broadcaster, ERT, has confirmed that is has no intention of returning to Junior Eurovision in 2021 next December in Paris.

    The Greek broadcaster has confirmed to local media that Greece will not be returning to Junior Eurovision in 2021, staying away from the competition for a 13th consecutinve year. Although ERT has not given any further explanation for their decision it hasn't ruled out a potential comeback in the future. 

    This year Junior Eurovision 2021 is set to take place in Paris, France on December 19,2021 at the La Seine Musicale. So far 10 countries have confirmed their participation. 

     

    Greece In Junior Eurovision

    Greece has sent six entries to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, entering at the first edition of the contest back  in 2003.

    Greece's first entry was eight-year-old Nicolas Ganopoulos with the song "Fili gia panda", which came eight for Greece. Greece's best entry in the contest was in 2005 when Alexandros and Kalli came sixth for Greece with "Tora einai i seira mas". Greece's worst result was in 2007, when Made In Greece came 17th and last with only 14 points.

    In 2009 ERT decided to withdraw from the contest fter five years of participation due of the relatively low television ratings for the Contest and an objection to "using" children.
