Iceland: Sigga, Beta & Elín to Eurovision 2022 with the song 'Með hækkandi sól'

Sigga, Beta and Elín will represent Iceland will represent Iceland at Eurovision 2022 in Turin after winning the national final of Söngvakeppnin 2022 with the song "Með Hækkandi Sól".
Iceland selected their Eurovision 2022 through the show of Söngvakeppnin 2022 after a year's break with the internal selection of Dadi Freyr. A total of 160 songs were submitted during the submssion period, which marked a new record number for the national selection and could easily be justified by last year's successful participation in Rotterdam.
A special committee shorlisted 10 entries that are competing in the national selection, which will consist of two semifinals and one grand final show. Five acts compete in each semi final heat with the public voting to determine two qualifiers from each semi final. In addition the jury chose one more entry to advance to the final show from the non-qualifiers of the semifinals.
The final was hosted by Björg Magnúsdóttir, Jón Jónsson and Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir.
Thus this evening a total of five acts competed in the final:
- Katla – Þaðan af
- Amarosis – “Don’t you know”
- Reykjavikurdaetur – Turn This Around
- Stefán Óli – Ljósið
- Sigga, Beta & Elín – Með hækkandi sól
The Results
The results were determined in two rounds of voting. In the first round a jury and public voting selected the two acts that advanced in a Superfinal round. During the Superfinal round the public determined the final winner and next Icelandic Eurovision hopeful. The International jury was made up by the following members:
- Ragnheiður Gröndal (Iceland) - Musician
- Tusse (Sweden) – Sweden's Eurovision 2021 act
- Sóley Stefánsdóttir (Iceland) – Musician
- Barry Van Corneval (The Netherlands) – Eurovision in Concert Organiser
- Stig Karlsen (Norway) – Norwegian Eurovision Head of Delegation
- Daði Freyr (Iceland) – Icelandic Eurovision 2020 & 2021 act
- Heidi Välkkilä (Finland) –YLE Manager of Marketing
Accordng to the votes of the first round the two acts that made it to the Superfinal round were:
- Sigga, Beta & Elín – Með hækkandi sól
- Reykjavikurdaetur – Turn This Around
In the Superfinal round the public exclusively decided to send to Turin Sigga, Beta & Elín with the song Með hækkandi sól.
A few words for Sigga, Beta & Elín
Sigga, Beta & Elín (formerly Sísý Ey ) is an Icelandic musical group formed in 2011 by the sisters Sigríður, Elísabet and Elín Eyþórsdóttir.
Born into a family of musicians, the sisters began singing and playing since childhood. In 2011 they formed the trio Sísý Ey, which they joined their respective careers as soloists.Their song for Eurovision 2022 Með hækkandi sól (With the raising sun) has been penned by Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir.
The three sisters will compete in the second half of second semi final in Turin on May 12, 2022.
