Italy: Amadeus unveils his five Sanremo 2022 co-hosts

  • The artistic director and conductor of Sanremo Festival, Amadeus, has unveiled the names of his co-hosts for the 72nd edition of Italy's iconic music event. 

    While Amadeus will be for one more near the primary presenter of the upcoming Sanremo Festival in Italy, five nationally and internally acclaimed acts will accompany his on the stage at Teatron Ariston next month. 

    Sanemo Festival 2022 is set to unfold over five nights from February 1 to February 5, 2022. For each show Amadeus will have on his side one more act to co-host the show. 

     

    Namely the 5 acts that will have the honor to co-host one of the Sanremo shows along with Amadeus are: 

     

    First evening : Ornella Muti

    Ornella is among the most famous internationally acclaimed Italian actresses.  She comes from Rome and has 50 years of career, has innumerable successes in her professional background, not only in cinema but will be thr  first time that of the  on the  72nd Saremo Festival stage. Thus, after having interpreted various cinematographic genres working among others with Dino Risi, Damiano Damiani, Mario Monicelli, Marco Ferreri, Ettore Scola, John Landis, Paolo Virzì, Francesca Archibugi and Woody Allen, Ornell will accompany Amadeus through the first night's show in Teatron Ariston. 

     

    Second Evening: Lorena Cesarini

    Lorena Cesarini , actress, from Rome, with a degree in Contemporary History, experienced her first acting test in 2014 with the film 'Arance e martello' by Diego Bianchi. In 2015 she starred in the film 'Professor Cenerentolo' by Leonardo Pieraccioni and found success with the general public by impersonating Isabel, the prostitute who makes the protagonist of the Suburra series fall in love, Aureliano, played by Alessandro Borghi.

     

    Third Evening: Drusilla Foer

    Drusilla Foer , from Tuscany, born Gianluca Gori, made her debut in the theater but has left her mark in the movies and TV scene.  Artist, singer, actress and painter, she also starred in Ferzan Ozpetek's film 'Magnifica Presenza' but for the people of the web she is a style icon capable of also lending itself to the support of social causes of great importance.

    Fourth evening: Maria Chiara Giannetta

    Maria Chiara Giannetta , a young Apulian actress, divided herself between theater and television productions, also interpreting the role of Anna Olivieri in the series 'Don Matteo'. A few weeks ago, her success was ensured by the lead role in Blanca, the Rai1 fiction in which she played a brilliant blind detective. Graduated in Literature and Philosophy, Maria Chiara Giannetta had her first musical experience participating in the video for the single 'I look crazy' by Max Pezzali directed by Cosimo Alemà.

    Fifth evening: Sabrina Ferilli

    For Sabrina Ferilli , it will be the third time in Sanremo to seal a career full of successes both in cinema and in television and theater. She is one of the protagonists of the Oscar-winning film 'The Great Beauty' by Paolo Sorrentino. Her talent has often declined in dramatic roles, and countless Italian comedies. The Roman actress, star of many television broadcasts, hosted Sanremo in 1996 with Pippo Baudo and Valeria Mazza and was a special guest in the 2002 edition of the Festival.

     

    Sanremo 2022

    Sanremo festival is set to hit the screen on February 1 and will keeps us company for five nights, up to the Grand final show on February 5, 2022. All shows will take place at Teatron Ariston with the limited presence of an audience. Twenty-four artists will compete in the next edition of Sanremo with twenty-four unpublished songs and a renewed voting mechanism with three independent juries for accredited journalists in the first two evenings (print, Radio and TV, Web) and the debut of the “Demoscopic 1000” jury, that will determine along with televoting the final outcome. 

    The winner of Sanremo will go on representing Italy on home soil at Eurovision 2022 in Turin the following May. 

     

    Italy in Eurovision 

    Italy has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 46 times since making its debut at the first contest in 1956.  After a 14-year absence from 1998 and on, the country returned to the contest in 2011. Italy has won the contest twice  in 1964 with Gigliola Cinquetti and her song “Non ho l’età”.  Italy’s second victory in the contest came in 1990 with Toto Cutugno and the song “Insieme: 1992”.

    Italy’s come back to the contest has proved to be very successful, the country having finished in the top ten in eight times of the last decade (2011–2021), with Raphael Gualazzi second in 2011, Nina Zilli ninth in 2012, Marco Mengoni seventh in 2013 and Il Volo third in 2015, Francesco Ghabbani 6th in Kiev. In 2018  the winners of Sanremo 2018 ,Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro, represented Italy in Eurovision in Lisbon with their song “Non mi avete fatto niente”. The Italian duo achieved an honorable 5th place in the Grand final with 308 points and a remarkable 3rd placing in the public voting.

    In 2019 , Mahmood, winner of Sanremo 2019 represented the country in Tel Aviv with his entry Soldi. The Italian representative kept the good results for Italy achieving a 2nd place in the Grand Final in Tel Aviv. In 2020 Diodato might have won the Sanremo festival with 'Fai Rumore' but unfortunately didn't have the chance to perform in Rotterdam as the contest was cancelled de to the coronavirus pandemic.

    In 2021 the rock band Maneskin won Saremo 2021 and went on representing the nation on Rotterdam where they triumphed with their song 'Zitti e Buoni' bringing the 2022 contest to Italy.
