  • Zdob și Zdub & Frații Advahov have been internally selected to represent Moldova at Eurovision 2022 in Turin with their song "Trenulețul".

    Moldovan public broadcaster TRM has announced that  Zdob și Zdub along with the orchestra of Fraţii Advahov (Trupa „Zdop şi Zdup" şi Fraţii Advahov / Fraţii Advahov și formația „Zdob și Zdub") will fly the flag in Turin with the song  Trenuleţul. The broadcaster has chosen its representative internally, after having auditioned this afternoon. 

    Although at first the Moldovan public broadcaster TRM had decided to organize a public selection, the Organizing Committee opted for an internal choice, noting the impossibility of organizing a TV show due to the worsening of the epidemiological situation in the country. .

    The Moldavian punk rock and folk rock group Zdob și Zdub ( Roman Yagupov, Mihai Gâncu, Sviatoslav Starus, Andrei Cebotari, Victor Dandeș și Valeriu Mazilu ) has already participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with Bunica bate doba " (Grandmamma is beating from drum-a). finishing in sixth place. In 2011, he again represented Moldova, finishing in twelfth place with 'So Lucky'The band combines punk rock and Balkan music with both hip hop and Moldovan and Russian popular music influences.

    In Turin, the band will share the stage with the folk music orchestra of the Advahov brothers, (Frații Advahov: Vitalie Advahov și  Vasile Advahov ).

    Earlier In the afternoon, 28 artists participated in the auditions taking place, for 29 songs (Sasha Bognibov had to participate with two songs, but did not perform with his second song in the "My Friend is Gay" selection):

    The jury of experts that selected the Moldovan representatives was composed of: 

    • Geta Burlacu - Representative of Moldova in 2008
    • Vali Boghean - Singer
    • Cristina Scarlat - Representative of Moldova in 2014
    • Victoria Cuşnir - Journalist
    • Aliona Moon - Representative of Moldova in 2013

    Once tha auditions were completed and the song assessed the expert jury revealed the final result at 18.15 CET. This is how the result came out:

    Zdob și Zdub & Fratii Advahov with the song “Trenulețul” will perform in the first half of the First Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, Tuesday 10 May 2022.

     

    Moldova in Eurovision 

    Moldova participated in Eurovision for the first time in 2005 and hasn’t missed a year since then. Its best results came in 2017 when Sunstroke Project with Hey Mama finished 3rd. In 2018 the country was represented by DoReDos anf their entry Lucky Day, which finished 10th in the final. In 2019 Anna Odobescu flew the flag in Tel Aviv performing her power ballad “Stay” but despite her amazing vocal performance didn’t make it to the grand final.

    In 2020, Natalia Gordienko was set to represent the country with the song 'Prison' but unfortunately the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 outbreak. Natalia however was invited back for Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam, where she competed with her song "Sugar" which after qualifying to the Grand final finished 13th with 115 points in total.
