  • Moldova's Eurovision 2022 representatives, have released the final version of their entry for Turin, 'Trenulețul'

    Zdob și Zdub & Frații Advahov were internally selected to represent Moldova in Eurovision 2022 after a rally of auditions for 28 candidate acts. Although the Moldovan broadcaster, TRM, had initially planned for a national final, they scrapped that option due to the covid-19 situation in the country. 

    Moldova's hopefuls have now presented the revamp of their song for Turin in which English lyrics have been integrated in the lyrics, mainly in the song's refrain. In addition, the introduction of the song has been revamped while the closing part of the entry feature a guitar solo sound while the refrain is repeated  in English and Moldovan language. 

    Zdob și Zdub & Fratii Advahov with the song “Trenulețul” will perform in the first half of the First Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, Tuesday 10 May 2022.

    The Moldavan punk rock and folk rock group Zdob și Zdub ( Roman Yagupov, Mihai Gâncu, Sviatoslav Starus, Andrei Cebotari, Victor Dandeș și Valeriu Mazilu ) has already participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with Bunica bate doba " (Grandmamma is beating from drum-a). finishing in sixth place. In 2011, he again represented Moldova, finishing in twelfth place with 'So Lucky'. The band combines punk rock and Balkan music with both hip hop and Moldovan and Russian popular music influences.

    In Turin, the band will share the stage with the folk music orchestra of the Advahov brothers, (Frații Advahov: Vitalie Advahov și  Vasile Advahov ).

     

    Moldova in Eurovision 

    Moldova participated in Eurovision for the first time in 2005 and hasn’t missed a year since then. Its best results came in 2017 when Sunstroke Project with Hey Mama finished 3rd. In 2018 the country was represented by DoReDos anf their entry Lucky Day, which finished 10th in the final. In 2019 Anna Odobescu flew the flag in Tel Aviv performing her power ballad “Stay” but despite her amazing vocal performance didn’t make it to the grand final.

    In 2020, Natalia Gordienko was set to represent the country with the song 'Prison' but unfortunately the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 outbreak. Natalia however was invited back for Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam, where she competed with her song "Sugar" which after qualifying to the Grand final finished 13th with 115 points in total.
