Monaco: No comeback at Eurovision in 2023
-
Monaco Media Difffusion (MMD) Monaco's national broadcaster will not be making it's way back to Eurovision in 2023.
MMD has confirmed to ESCToday that Monaco will nit be returning at Eurovision in 2023 taking the same path as Androrra, Slovakia and Luxembourg.
MMD has taken TMC's place which was tha national broadcaster responsible for the state's Eurovision participation up to 2006. However, TMC merged into MMD and lost its membership in EBU.
While last year there were several media reports that wanted Monaco returning with a reallocation of funds for the participation it seems eventually that there is no change of direction on the matter.
Monaco in Eurovision
Monaco made its debut participation in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1959 and has a history of 24 appearances in the competition. The micro-state has a victory to show as in ESC 1971 Severine won the contest in Dublin performing Un banc, un arbre, une rue.
The nation participated in the contest from 1959 until 1979, to withdraw one year later. It was only in 2004 when the country returned to the competition and competed for the next two years. In 2007 it decided to withdraw from the contest and hasn't returned back since then.
In their last appearance the country competed with Séverine Ferrer and her song La Coco Dance which failed to qualify to the Grand final.
Lets remember the country's victorious participation back in 1971 with Severine:
