North Macedonia: 'Eurosong 2022' national final contestants unveiled

  • The North Macedonian national broadcaster, MRT, has unveiled the six contestants of the country's Eurovision 2022 national final, Eurosong 2022. 

    After consecutive years of internal selections for Eurovision, since 2016 precisely, MKRTV decided this year to hold a national final in order to select the country's Eurovision 2022 act and entry. In the past most of the North Macedonian entries, apart from those between 2012 ans 2014, were determined by a national final and mostly by Skopje Fest. 

    From 47 entries submitted six acts were shortlisted for the national final, Eurosong 2022. Namely, the national finalists are: 

     

    • Kalina Velkovska (Kaly) – “Love and Light”
    • Yon Idy – “Dreams”
    • Lara Ivanova – “Flower of Sorrow”
    • Viktor Apostolovski – “Superman”
    • Andrea Koevska – “Circles”
    • Boris Cvetanovski – “Flying to Berlin”

     

    The contestants are likely to record their performance in a common  background, similar to those in the Czech Republic's national selection. On  January 28 the competing songs of the national final will premiere on the show Stisni Play on MRT 1 at 22:00 CET. An online voting will commence after the show up to March 4. The final outcome will be determined 50% by public voting and 50% by jury voting. 

     

    North Macedonia in Eurovision 

    The Balkan country debuted at the comeptition in 1998 with the name FYR Macedonia. As FYR Macedonia the country attempted to participate for the first time at the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo with Kaliopi, but didn’t make through the special premliminary audio semi-final.

    In its 19 years of participation the best result came this year with Tamara Todevska and her entry “Proud” which finished 7th in the final , while it has qualified only 9 times in the final.In 2019 internally selected Tamara , not only interrupted the six years of non qualifying results by coming 7th in the final, but also achieved to top the jury voting. This was the country’s first top ten placing.

    This year Vasil  was internally selected  to represent the country at Eurovision 2020 with his entry "You"  but unfortunately didn't have the chance to complete his Eurovision journey as the contest was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Up to date the country's broadcaster, hasn't yet unveiled its intentions for Eurovision 2021 regarding its ESC 2020 hopeful.
