Spain: Benidorm Fest 2022 contestants and songtitles revealed

The Spanish broadcaster, RTVE, revealed this morning the 14 acts that will participate in the Benidorm Festival, the event that will determine the country's Eurovision 2022 hopeful.
A total of 886 entries have been submitted to RTVE for Benidorm during the submission period. Due to the high interest and number of submission the organisers decided to shortlist 14 acts, instead of 12 initially planned.
After assessing all the submissions the working group selected the 14 artists that will compete in the Spanish national with RTVE revealing the name along with their respective song titles.
Thus, the candidates of the Spanish national selection for Eurovision 2022 are:
- Azúcar Moreno – “Postureo” (Posing)
- Blanca Paloma – “Secreto del agua” (Secret of water)
- Chanel – “Slo mo”
- Gonzalo Hermida – “Quién lo diría” (Who would say it)
- Javiera Mena – “Culpa” (Fault)
- Luna Ki – “Quiero Morir” (I want to die)
- Marta Sango -.”Sigues en mi mente” (You stay in my mind)
- Rayden – “Calle de la llorería” (Crying street)
- Rigoberta Bandini – “Ay Mama” (O Mum)
- Sara Deop – “Make you say”
- Tanxugueiras – “Terra” (Land)
- Unique – “Mejores” (Better)
- Varry Brava – “Raffaella”
- Xeinn – “Eco” (Echo)
Among the candidates the name of Azúcar Moreno without doubt stands out as she has represented Spain at Eurovision 1990, where they finished fifth with “Bandido”.
The entries will be released on December 23 while RTVE will not have nay author's right on the participating songs.
The singers will participate in groups of seven in the two semifinals of the competition. The four most voted in each gala by the professional jury (60% national experts and 40% international) and the public (50% televoting and 50% demoscopic jury) will go to the grand final, with will see a total of eight performances. The winner of Benidorm Fest will represent Spain in the 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy.
Spain in Eurovision
Spain participated for the first time in 1961 with Conchita Bautista and has achieved twice to win, in 1968 (Massiel) and in 1969 (Salome). Madrid hosted the contest in 1969 where there was a four country tie in the first place on the final scoreboard.
Despite not having missed a single contest since 1961 , Spain doesn’t have remarkable results to show the latest years. Exception was Anabel Conde’s 2nd place in Eurovision 1995 held in Dublin. Spain has came in history 2nd four times ( 1971, 1973, 1979, 1995) while it has finished last 5 times (1962, 1965, 1983, 1999, 2017) from which the first three receiving null points.
Miki represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song “La venda”. The singer in 22nd place with a total of 54 points. In 2020 Blas Cantó was chosen internally to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “Universo”: Unfortunately the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic and Blas never had the chance to perform in Rotterdam.
However, TVE, invited the Spanish act back for Eurovision 2021 where he performed his entry "Voy e Quedarme" at Rotterdam Ahoy in the Grand final, finishing 24th with 6 points.
