Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs crowned Melodifestivalen 2022 winner and is off to Turin

• Sweden’s quest for its Eurovision 2022 representative concluded this evening with Cornelia Jakobs crowned Melodifestivalen 2022 winner with the song 'Hold Me Closer'.

  “Melodifestivalen 2022”  saw a total of  5 semi-final rounds taking place the previous weeks and this evening's grand final show that crowned Cornelia as  the next Swedish Eurovision representative. The show  took place at Friends Arena in Stockholm and was hosted by Oscar Zia.

  A total of 28 acts took part in this year’s edition, with 7 acts to competing in each of the first four semi-final rounds and 8 acts that had a second chance in the 5th semi final.  

   

  In this evening's final show 12 acts were in the race to represent Sweden in Turin.

  The Results

  The outcome was determined 50% by the public voting and 50% by the votes of an international jury. The countries forming this year's international jury were: 

  • The Netherlands
  • Finland 
  • Spain 
  • Australia 
  • Czech Republic 
  • Ireland 
  • Israel
  • Italy 

  Here is how the Jury voting scoreboard came out once all votes were in: 

  

   The final resultscame out as soon as the public votes were added in which saw Cornelia crowned winner leaving second behind Anders Bagge and in thrid place Medina. 

  

  A few words for Cornelia

  Anna Cornelia Jakobsdotter Samuelsson, best known as Cornelia Jakobs.  was born on  9 March 1992), is a Swedish singer and songwriter The daughter of The Poodles' singer Jakob Samuel, she started her career as member of the girl group Love Generation, who participated in Melodifestivalen 2011 and 2012.Love Generation's 2011 entry "Dance Alone" peaked at place 26 on Sverigetopplistan.
  

  She also auditioned for Idol 2008, and received some press after being mocked by the judges.She participated in Melodifestivalen 2021 as a songwriter for the song ”Best of Me” performed by Efraim Leo. In 2020, Jakobs composed and performed the song "Weight of the World" which became the soundtrack for the HBO Nordic series Björnstad.

  Cornelia's song "Hold me Closer" is penned by herself along with David Zandén and Isa Molin Cornelia will be competing in the second half of the second semi final in Turin on May 12, 2022.
