Sweden: Tonight Melodifestivalen 2021 continues with the second semi final show

  • The Swedish Eurovision 2021 national selection continues tonight at 20:00 CET with the second semi final show of Melodifestivalen 2021.

    The second semi final of Melodifestivalen 2021 is set to hit our screens tonight live from Stockholm, while hosts of the event will be Christer Bjorkman alongside with Oscar Zia & Anis Don Demina (both former Melfest participants). In this evening’s 2nd semi final we will see 7 more acts compete for the two spots that lead directy to the final and two more to the second chance round.

    The seven entries that will take the stage tonight are:

     

    1. Anton Ewald – “New Religion”
    2. Julia Alfrida – “Rich”
    3. WAHL feat. SAMI – “90-talet”
    4. Frida Green – “The Silence”
    5. Eva Ryberg & Ewa Roos – “Rena rama ding dong”
    6. Patrik Jean – “Tears Run Dry”
    7. Dotter – “Little Tot” 

     

    The voting process incudes two rounds, both in which only the public votes determine the result. In the first round the five acts with the most votes qualify to a second round of public voting. The first two acts in this second round of votes qualify directly to the Grand final on March 13  while the 3rd and 4th will compete in the second chance round set for March 6, 2021.

     

    A few words for the 7 contestants

    Among this evening's contestants we see Anton Ewald who began his career as a background dancer at Melodifestivalen. In Melodifestivalen 2009, he danced behind Velvet while in Melodifestivalen 2012 he was a dancer and choreographer behind Danny Saucedo in his song "Amazing" and Andreas Lundstedt number "Aldrig aldrig" ("Never Never") during the same year's competition. Ewald participated in Melodifestivalen 2013, with the song "Begging"  which finished 4th in the final. 

     

    Julia Alfrida was the first artist that was announced as a participant of Melodifestivalen 2021 after her participation in  P4 Nästa 2020. Julia who competed in the final with her song Dark Room was selected by a jury formed to take part in Melfest 2021. Her career kicked off real good as she released her first single ”HER” summer 2019 while in nn February 7th 2020,  she released her debut EP ”EPISODE23”.

     

    Eva Gunilla Johansson Rydberg  is a Swedish singer, actress, comedian, revue-artist and dancer. In 1966, Rydberg appeared in her first television performance with the comedy segment during the Kvitt eller dubbelt show. She took part in Melodifestivalen 1977 with the entry "Charlie Chaplin" composed by Tomas Ledin, and placed seventh. Ewa Maria Roos Sevenheim started her career at the age of thirteen when she won a talent search by the radio show Landet runt.  In 1963, she won a talent competition hosted by Bildjournalen, and she represented Sweden in a singing competition in Riccone, Italy. She sang the song "I valet och kvalet".In 1968, she entered fourth place on Svensktoppen with the song "Tre små ord och jag förlåter", the same year she had her big breakthrough with the song "Vilken härlig dag".

    WAHL feat. SAMI is a duo consisting of 42 yo Sami Rekik member of the hiphop duo, Medina and 34 years-old Christopher Wahlberg, songwrtiter and composer as one act of the hiphop duo SödraSidan.

     

    Frida is a singer in two different bands and was in the summer of 2015 current with the radio threat "Johnny G" as a singer in the band Badpojken. Frida Green captured the Swedish people with her interpretation of Sia's " Chandelier " in the first part of Talang 2018. In 2019, she released the sling "Beat Em Up", which has close to 2 million downloads on Spotify. 

     

    Patrik Jean has written two singles for Felix Jaehn, one of which was number one on the German Airplay Chart, and he will be featured on the upcoming album.He wrote last year’s Danish summer anthem “Mad For It”, released by TooManyLeftHands.He ended 2017 with writing “Treading Water” for Swedish Idol winner Chris Kläfford that went number one on Sweden Top 50 and Global Viral 50 on Spotify. In 2018 he released Low Life by Soleima and was one of the songwriters behind the song “Move” with The Mamas in Melodifestivalen 2020.

     

    Dotter, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She finished second in Melodifestivalen 2020 with her song "Bulletproof", one point behind the winning song. Dotter co-wrote the song "A Million Years" by Mariette Hansson for Melodifestivalen 2017. It went on to place fourth in the final. She also co-wrote the song"Victorious" performed by Lina Hedlund in Melodifestivalen 2019  which placed eleventh in the final.
