Junior Eurovision 2022: New Chairperson for the Steering Group

  • The Steering Group for the Junior Eurovision Sng Contest has seen changes in its composition with a new Chairperson taking over.  

    While the 20th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is about 8 months away, the composition of the JESC Steering Group has gone under changes. 

     

    What is the Steering Group

    The Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) Steering Group is the executive committee supervising and guiding the Junior Eurovision song contest, representing all the members the same time. According to the EBU the objectives of the Steering Group are: 

    • to secure the format of the JESC;
    • to modernize the brand and raising the awareness of the JESC;
    • to overlook the yearly preparation by the Host Broadcaster. 

    The JESC Steering group meets four or five times each year on behalf of all participating broadcasters, and is required to take decisions in the general interest of the JESC.

    The JESC Steering Group is composed of the following members :

    • The chairman;
    • Two elected members of the heads of delegation;
    • The executive producer of the previous host country, the executive producer of the current year's host broadcaster and the executive producer of the next host broadcaster;
    • The EBU Junior Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor.

     

    New Chairperson

    Following the suspension of all Russian members from all EBU's governance goups due to the Russina invasion in Ukraine,  Marta Piekarska from the Polish broadcaster TVP will become the Group’s new Chairperson replacing Ekaterina Orlova from the Russian broadcaster of RTR who was in that position since 2013. 

    Thus the JESC Steering Group consists of the following members: 

    • Ana Maria Bordas (RTVE)
    • Carla Bugalho (RTP)
    • Natia Mshvenieradze (GPB)
    • Marta Piekarska (TVP, Chairperson) 
    • Alexandra Redde (France TV)
    • David Tserunyan (AMPTV)
    • Anja Zegwaard (AVROTROS)
    • Martin Österdahl (EBU)

     

    The 20th edition of the Junior Eurovision song contest will take place Yerevan, Armenia following Malena Fox's victorious participation in Paris with the song "Qami Qami". This will be the second time the country will be hosting the competition after 2011 when it hosted the contest after winning it in 2010 with  Vladimir Arzumanyan and his song "Mama".
