Tonight: The 2nd Semi-final of Festival da Canção 2023 takes place in Portugal

  • The Portuguese national selection for Eurovision 2023 goes on this evening with the second semi final show of Festival da Canção taking place in Lisbon. 

    Portugal is using once again its tradional national selection format of Festival da Canção which will be running for its 57th edition.

    A total of 20 composers are behind the competing entries of Festival da Canção 2022 the names of which have been released by RTP. From those  five were selected from the public submissions while the rest 15 were invited directly be RTP. Initially the invitation was sent to 16 composers with one of them withdrawing eventually due to personal reasons and his spot was filled in by one extra public submission.

    Following last week's first semi-final heat this evening the second semi-final will take place to determine the second set of finalists. The show will host Sónia Araújo and Jorge Gabriel, while Inês Lopes Gonçalves is hosting the Green Room.

    A total of 10 acts will compete in this second semi final heat: 

     

    The results

    The first set of finalists will be determined through two rounds, in the first round all ten artists will be voted by public televote (50%) and by a jury contributing with another 50%. The five acts that receive in total the highest points will advance to the final. In the second round the televoting will re-open with a sixth artist to be chosen by the public.

    The seven members that form the jury that will be voting in the Semi-Finals of the Portuguese selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 are:

    • Maro –  Portugal's Eurovision 2022 Act
    • Neev – Festival da Canção 2021 Participant

    The first semi-final of  Festival da Canção 2023 is set to hit the screen at 22:00 CET and you can watch it live on RTP's webstreaming.
