  • According to Christer Bjorkman the anticipated first edition of the American Song Contest has been postponed for 2022.

Bjorkman who is one of the producers for the American version of the Eurovision Song Contest, has revealed while talking before the Melodifestivalen final to 'Ask my Anything'. Pricisely he stated:

"We are at the moment negotiating about it and it's very close. Nothing has been signed yet as it takes a lot of lawyers and a lot of hours for them to work out every detail in the contest and that's what actually happening right now but if everything works out, we will be moving there as soon as they let us in and we will, hopefully, be on air with the first American Song Contest ever in 2022."

Although the American song contest will be a different and independent project from that of the Eurovision Song Contest the Swedish producer revealed intentions of urging eurovision fans to attend the shows on the other side of the Atlantic. Bjorkman says adding:

"We have plans for that, we will arrange specific packages for eurofans to come over and visit us once we are up and running."

While the dicussions and reports for the American Song Contest go back to 2006 ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, it was not until August 2020 that EBU officially confirmed that the Eurovision Song Contest is crossing the Altantic
