  • The Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2022 continued this evening with the second semi final of Söngvakeppnin 2022.

Iceland is selecting their Eurovision 2022 through the show of Söngvakeppnin 2022 after a year's break with the internal selection of Dadi Freyr. The show was hosted by Björg Magnúsdóttir, Jón Jónsson and Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir. All entries had to be performed in Icelandic in the semi-finals.

From the rescord number of 160 submissions, a special committee shorlisted 10 entries to compete in the national selection, which consists of two semifinals and one grand final show. Five acts compete in each semi final heat with the public voting selecting two qualifiers from each semi final. In addition the jury will choose one more entry to advance to the final show from the non-qualifiers of the semifinals.

In this evening's second semi-final show we saw the following acts competing:

    1. Hanna Mia and the Astrotourists – “Séns með þér” (See you soon) / “Gemini”

    4

    2. Katla – “Þaðan af” (From there) / “Then again”

    3. Markéta Irglová – “Mögulegt” (Possible) / “Possible”

    4. Reykjavikurdaetur – “Tökum af stað” (Let’s get started) / “Turn this around”

    5. Suncity and Sanna – “Hækkum í botn” (Let’s go to the bottom)

The two acts that were chosen by the public to progress to the final show are:

    1. Katla – “Þaðan af” (From there) / “Then again”
    2. Reykjavikurdaetur – “Tökum af stað” (Let’s get started) / “Turn this around”

In addition a wildcard was selected from the semifinals non-qualifiers with one additional act going through to the final:

    1. Amarosis – “Don’t you know”

Thus today's qualifiers will be joining the 1st semi-final qualifiers in next week's Grand final show that will determine Iceland's Eurovision 2022 representative.
