Portugal: Maro is taking "saudade, saudade" to Eurovision 2022

The Portuguese national selection concluded this evening declaring Maro winner of Festival da Canção 2022 and tha nation's Eurovision 2022 hopeful with "saudade, saudade"
Portugal usied once again its tradional national selection format of Festival da Canção which is running for its 56th edition. A total of 20 composers were behind the competing entries of Festival da Canção 2022. From those 16 were invited directly by RTP while the rest four were selected by the public submissions.
Following the 1st semi final show and the 2nd Semi-final heat this evening's Grand final show took place in the RTP studios in Lisbon and was hosted by Filomena Cautela and Vasco Palmeirim.
A total of 10 acts competed for the right to represent the country at Eurovision 2022 and appeared on stage in the following order:

3 . Milhanas – Corpo de Mulher
4 . Inês Homem de Melo – Fome de Viagem
5 . Aurea – Why?
6 . Os Quatro E Meia – Amanhã

8 . Diana Castro – Ginger Ale
9 . MARO – saudade, saudade
10 . Pepperoni Passion – Código 30
The ResultsThe outcome of the final will be determine 50% by public voting and the rest 50% by jury voting. MARO achieved to top both votings and was the clear winner of the night. Here is how the overall score turned out once both votings were added in.A few words for MAROMARO is a 28 year-old multi-instrumentalist and composer from Lisbon. was born in 1994 to a musical household. Her mother is a music teacher and her father is a music enthusiast.
MARO started studying classical piano at the age of 4, later completing the Conservatory Diploma at the age of 17, along with her High School Diploma. At 11, MARO wrote her first of song. At 12, she started playing the guitar as an autodidact, today a key instrument in her composition process. Later, her voice and the electric bass also gained an important role in MARO’s musical activity.
At the age of 20, she started her studies at Berklee College of Music (Boston) with the European Tour Scholarship from the school and three other scholarships from Portugal. It was then that MARO began presenting herself regularly as a singer and songwriter.After graduating as a Professional Music major (2017), MARO initiated her professional life in Los Angeles (2018).
In 2018 she released her first solo album, in 3 volumes: “MARO, Vol.1”, “MARO, Vol.2” e “MARO, Vol.3 ”. All songs are organized chronologically and are sung in Portuguese and English.
A tireless and obsequiously creative artist, she follows her dreams inspired by musicians such as Milton Nascimento, Joni Mitchell, Rajery, Elis Regina or Esperanza Spalding.Some of the high moments in her career so far include working with Rui Veloso (2016), Tigran Hamasyan (2017), Fatai and Carolina Deslandes (2018).
In 2020 he decided to take some time off the road life to create new projects and plan 2021. Her latest solo album ‘IT’S OK’.
Maro will be competing in the second half of the first semi-final in Turin on May 10, 2022.
