Spain: RTVE renews Eurovision working team with Eva Mora  as new Head of Delegation

  • The Spanish national broadcaster, RTVE, has renewed the Eurovision working team appointing Eva Mora as the new Head of Delegation. 

    Back in July 22 RTVE announced that it will be switching to a new national selection formatannounced that it will be switching to a new national selection format that will take place in Benidorm, using the local festival to determine the next Eurovision hopeful. It was then that José Manuel Pérez Tornero and Amalia Martínez de Velasco, RTVE's new content director, talked about a new working group of experts that will over look the whole process for Eurovision. 

    Within that framework RTVE appointed Eva Mora as the new Head of Delegation, taking over from Ana María Bordás, who will now be the new director of RTVE's Originals.

    In addition, RTVE has also made official the configuration of the working group in charge of designing and  promoting Spain's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest  in the coming years. A working group that reports directly to the Director of General Contents of RTVE,  Amalia Martínez de Velasco.

    The working team is made up of the director of Communication and Participation of RTVE, María Eizaguirre; Esteban Calle , from Marketing RTVE; César Vallejo, head of Digital Documentary and special envoy in six editions of the festival ; Irene Mahía, coordinator of Current Content of Playz and special envoy to Eurovision in six editions; Fernando Macías, from RTVE Play, coordinator of the Eurovision website at RTVE and special envoy since 2018.

    Also part of it are Javier Martin , a journalist for Informativos de RTVE; Jordi Vives, director of musical programs Julia Varela , Eurovision commentator since 2015 and director and presenter of 'Tarde lo que tard', on RNE; and Radio 3 specialists Virginia Díaz ('180 degrees', 'Cachitos' in La 2) and Julio Ródenas ('Turbo 3') .

    Who is Eva Mora?

    Eva Mora (Madrid, 1974) joined RTVE back in 2000, where she has worked as an editor and reporter in the Informative Services, in addition to different programs. and it has been sent special to the Eurovision Song Contest in five editions (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 ). In May 2020 she was chosen to comment with Tony Aguilar on the special program ' Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light ' and in November of that same year she was one of the commentators on the 18th edition of Junior Eurovision. 

    She is currently a reporter for Canal 24 Horas and has been one of the most visible faces in the coverage of the Coronavirus pandemic, work that has been combined with numerous interviews with personalities and new talents from the world of culture, especially music.

    She has been a regular RTVE staff member by opposition since 2008. She has previously worked in other media such as CNN Noticias and Telemadrid, in programs that earned her several awards from the TV Academy for "My camera and I" and an Ondas by 'Madrileños por el Mundo'.

    Her career at RTVE began as editor of 'Informe Semanal', later she was part of the Information Services and programs of RNE, the International area of ​​Canal 24h, as well as the News 1 in the Society area. He also developed his professional work in programs such as 'La Mañana de la 1', 'En familia' and 'Más gente'.

     

    The Spanish Eurovision Committee will be responsble to issue and release the regulations and rules of the national selection format, information of which will be shared over the coming weeks. 

     

    Spain in Eurovision

    Spain participated for the first time in 1961 with Conchita Bautista and has achieved twice to win, in 1968 (Massiel) and in 1969 (Salome). Madrid hosted the contest in 1969 where there was a four country tie in the first place on the final scoreboard.

    Despite not having missed a single contest since 1961 , Spain doesn’t have remarkable results to show the latest years. Exception was Anabel Conde’s 2nd place in  Eurovision 1995 held in Dublin. Spain has came in history 2nd four times ( 1971, 1973, 1979, 1995) while it has finished last 5 times (1962, 1965, 1983, 1999, 2017) from which the first three receiving null points.

    Miki represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song “La venda”. The singer  in 22nd place with a total of 54 points. In 2020  Blas Cantó was chosen internally to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “Universo”: Unfortunately the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic and Blas never had the chance to perform in Rotterdam.

    However, TVE, invited the Spanish act back for Eurovision 2021 where he performed his entry "Voy e Quedarme" at Rotterdam Ahoy in the Grand final, finishing 24th with 6 points.
