Tonight: Super Saturday with 8 Eurovision 2022 national selection shows across Europe!

  • Eurovision season is progressing to the core of national selections period with eight of them taking place today across Europe. 

    Two Grand final shows and six semifinal shows are taking place this evening in Europe. Namely, Israel will be selecting their hopeful with the X-factor Grand final show while the host national, Italy, is holding the Grand finalof Sanremo Festival.

    In addition, Melodifestivalen is kicking off in Sweden with the first semi-final show, Norway is holding the fourth semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix while Lithuania and Estonia are holding the second semi-finals for Pabandom is naujo! 2022 and Eesti Laul 2022 respectively. Also first semi final is taking place for EMA in Slovenia and Supernova in Latvia. 

    Let's take a look in each national selection show separately: 

     

    Estonia – Eesti Laul – Semi-Final Two (18:30 CET)

    Following the first semi-final that took place two day before and determined the first 5 finalists of Eesti Laul 2022, this evening Estonia will be holding the second semi final that will compete the final line-up with the last five qualifiers. 

    The show will be hosted by Maarja-Liis Ilus and Priit Loog. Maarja-Liis Ilus had represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996 and 1997 while Priit Loog is an actor known from secveral television series and films.

    A total of 10 acts will take the stage this evening for five spots that lead to the finals. Namely the competing acts of the night are: 

    1. Jyrise –Plaksuta
    2. Maian – Meeletu
    3. Boamadu – “Mitte kauaks
    4. Evelin Samuel – Waterfall
    5. Black Velvet – Sandra
    6. Pur Mudd, Shira – Golden Shores
    7. Jaagup Tuisk –Kui vaid
    8. Minimal Wind ft. Elisabeth Tiffany – What To Make Of This
    9. Stefan – Hope
    10. Anna Sahlene – Champion

    Notably, Minimal Wind and Elisabeth Tiffany will not perform live their songs as they were detected covid-19 positive a few days before. However, the repsective music videos of their song will be broadcast instead. 

     

    The results

    The semi-final show will consist of two rounds of voting. In the first round a combination of jury and public voting (50% each) will determine the first three qualifiers to the final. In the second round of voting the public only will select two more acts to advance to the finals. Thus, five acts will be determined this evening for the Grand final show.

    Norway – Melodi Grand Prix 2022 – Semi-Final Four (19:50 CET)

    Tonight the Norwegian national selection for Eurovision 2022, Melodi Grand Prix 2022 , goes on with the fourth semi final show taking place.

    A total of four acts will compete in duels in tonight's 4th semi final heat while the first of the five pre-qualified acts will be performing additionanally her Grand final competing entries. 

    Namely the acts to take the stage in this evening's fourth semi final round and the duels we will see them compete in are: 

    First Duel

     

    Maria Mohn – “Fly”  VS  Alexandra Joner – “Hasta la vista”

     

    Second Duel

     

    Kim Wigaard – “La Melodia”  VS  Sofie Fjellvang – “Made Of Glass”

     

    The four semifinalists will compete in duels live on stage, with the winner from each duel advancing to a 'Gold Duel', after which the ticket for the Grand final will go to the winner of this gold duel.

    In addition during this evening's show the pre-qualified act Subwoolfer will be performing “Give That Wolf a Banana”.

    Three hosts will have the honor to present us the show. Namely,  "The King of Saturday’s", Kåre Magnus Bergh, will serve as a host of the show for the eighth time. He will be accompanied by two new presenters on board, Annika Momrak and Mikkel Niva.

    Lithuania – Pabandom is naujo! 2022 – Semi-Final Two (20:00 CET)

    The Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision 2022 continues this evening with the second set of 9 semifinalists taking the stage to win one of the four spots in the final of Pabandom iš naujo! 2022.

    Pabandom iš naujo 2022 consists of six shows. After three qualifying rounds two semifinals and one Grand final show will follow. This evening the first set of 9 acts, out of a total of 18 semifnalists, will compete in the 1st semi-final heat of the national selection.

    Four finalists will be determined through today's first semi-final, with the results influenced 50% by public voting and 50% by jury voting. The jury wil have the right to comment on the performances but their points will not go public before the televoting closes. 

    The nine semifinalists to compete today are:

    • Urtė Šilagalytė – Running Chords
    • Ieva Zasimauskaitė – I’ll Be There
    • Augustė Vedrickaitė – Before You’re 6ft Under

    • Moosu X – Love That Hurts

     

    The show will host the trio  Ieva Stasiulevičiūtė, Giedrius Masalskis and Richardas Jonaitis. Giedrius is no stranger to the audience as he had presented the preevious national selections while Ieva is hosting for a second successive year.

    Sweden – Melodifestivalen 2022 – Semi-final One (20:00 CET)

    Sweden’s quest for its Eurovision 2022 representative kicks off this Saturday with the first semi-final of “Melodifestivalen 2022”.

    “Melodifestivalen 2022” consists of 5 semi-final rounds and the grand final to be held on March 13. A total of 28 acts take part in this year’s edition, with 7 acts to compete in each of the first four semi-final rounds. 

    In tonight's first heat which will take place at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm we will see competing the following 7 acts: 

    1. Malou Prytz – “Bananas”
    2. Theoz – “Som du vill
    3. Shirley Clamp – “Let There Be Angels”
    4. Omar Rudberg – “Moving Like That”
    5.  Danne Stråhed –“Hallabaloo”
    6.  Cornelia Jakobs – “Hold Me Closer”
    7. Robin Bengtsson – “Innocent Love”

    The first two acts with the highest points will advance to the Grand final on March 12 , while the third and fourth act will have a second chance in the Second Chance semi final round set to take place on March 5. SVT also has issued some changes to the voting format in this year's edition. 

    SVT decdided to scrap the the Melfest tour which would have seen the comeptition tour across Sweden in several cities, due to the rise of covid-19 cases. Therefore, all six shows will take place in Stockholm. The firth heat today will be hosted by Oscar Zia.

    Latvia – Supernova 2022 – Semi-Final (20:05 CET)

    Latvia's search for the next Eurovision act that will fly to Turin begins this evening with the first semi final of Supernova 2022. 

    Out of the submission 16 acts were shorlisted to take part in the national selection with a 17th act added through a wildcard determined via an online voting. 

    Therefore a total of 17 contestants will compete for the right to represent the country at Eurovision 2022 in this evening's show, which will be hosted by Ketija Šēnberga and Lauris Reiniks.

    The 17 semifinalists will compete in the following running order:

    A total of 10 acts will qualify to the final of Supernova 2022 with the result to be determined by a combination of public and jury voting. In addition, LTV also reserves the right to save one artist and award them a wildcard into the final.

    Israel – X Factor Israel – Final (20:15 CET)

    The Grand final show of X-factor Israel is taking place with four finalists taking the stage to compete for the right to represent Israel at Eurovision 2022. 

    After a number of auditions and shows and semi finals on X-factor four finalists determined on Channel 13 will take part in today's Grand final show.  Ahead of the X-factor Grand final, the special show 'HaShir Shelanu L’Eurovizion' determined out of 8 candidate songs  the four songs that the finlalists of this evening show will perform on stage. 

    The four acts along with their songs to compete tonight are: 

    The show will consist of two rounds. In the first round the show will see the four finalists performing cover songs. Out of the four , one act will be eliminated with the rest three going into a second round during which they will be singing their potential Eurovision entries. The final winner will represent Israel at Eurovision 2022 in Turin. The winner will be chosen by 50% public voting, 25% X Factor Israel judges voting and 25% professional jury voting.

    Slovenia – EMA 2022 – 1st Semi-Final (20:20 CET)

    Slovenia: RTVSLO confirms the EMA 2022 dates, hosts and semifinals allocation

    Slovenia is kicking off this evening their national selection for Eurovision 2022 with the first semi-final of EMA 2022 taking place. 

    The Ema 2022 selection will take place in three evenings - in two semi finals and a final show. Eight established musicians and two winners from Ema Freš, will perform in each semi final round. The jury and televoters will determine six finalists in each semi-final. Melani Mekicar and Bojan Cvjetićanin will have the honor to host EMA 2022.

     The six qualifiers will be determined by a jury and public deliberation. The jury will select three finalists while public voting will select the rest three.

    Italy – Festival della Sanremo – Final  (20:40 CET)

    Sanremo Festival 2022 concludes this evening with the fifth show and the 25 participants taking the stage once again at Teatro Ariston to perfrom their songs.

    Following the first night's show, the second show's results  , the third show and the fourth show, tonight Sanremo festival 2022 concludes with  its fifth night during which the 25 competing acts will take the stage for a last time to perform their songs.

    Amadeus will be presenting the show this evening accompanied by Marco Mengoni. In addition Banda musicale della Guardia di Finanza will feature the final night as guest stars. 

    The closing show of Sanremo 2022 will consist of two parts. The 25 acts will take the stage and perform their entries with the public voting following. The results of today's televoting will be added to the ranking results from the previous evenings. All place up to 4th place will be revealed while the top 3 acts will advance to the second part of the show. 

    During the second part the top 3 acts will perform once again their songs with the demoscopic voting (33%), the press jury (33%) and  public televote (34%) determining the last set of results that will declare the final winner and next Italian Eurovision representative.
