Eurovision 2021: The road to Rotterdam; Our weekly wrap-up

  • Starting from today Eurofans radio launches a serial of weekly updates as we are heading to the 65th Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. Keep up with the acts and entries determined the passed week and all the news from the Eurovision organisers along with what's coming the week following. 

    One more week gone in the natioanl selection season bringing us closer to the next Eurovision Song Contest set for May 18,20 and 22 in Rotterdam. This week several songs and act  were released with 32 out of 41 artists confirmed and national selections in full swing, it won’t be long before we have our full list of acts and songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

     

    Namely the past week (21/2/2021 - 28/2/2021 ) saw the following developments take place: 

    - Serbia: The week opened with some news from Serbia with the country's hopefuls the female trio , Hurricane, revealing that their Eurovision entry is titled "Loco Loco".

     

    - Greece: Nest stop to Greece which with Stefania sharing the date of her ESC entry release. Note it down March 10 we will get to listen for the first time "Last Dance" but it without doubt won't be the last dance from Stefania! 

     

    - Iceland: In the middle of the week it was time of the Icelandic hopeful Daði Freyr to speak up and inform us that his ESC 2021 entry is titled "10 years" and we will have to wait until March 13 until we listen to the song he'll be performing in Rotterdam with Gagnamagnið.

     

    - Germany: Germany's Jendrik Sigwart followed releasing his Eurovision 2021 song titled"I don't feel hate"  staying in tune with this year's slogan "Open Up" and how to do it throwing out of our lives the negativity and others toxic expressions. 

     

     

    - Cyprus: The island of Aphrodite stormed the ESC secene with Elena Tsagrinou's release of "El Diablo" the song that will represent the Meditteranean state. And if you have already read about the team behind the song ( Thomas Stengaard, Jimmy “Joker” Thornfeldt, Laurell Barker and Oxa) you would like to watch on repeat  Elena's impressive video of "El Diablo".

     

     

    - Ireland: The Irish ESC 2021 representative, Lesley Roy, released her song for Rotterdam tiled "Maps". We don't know if Lesley has found the road map to the country's 8th victory but her song is worth listening to and watching the music video which was filmed in in County Wicklow on the east coast of Ireland.

     

    - Austria: Friday and we found out the Vincent Bueno will sing 'Amen' for Austria in Rotterdam.

     

    Russia: The news coming from Russia are speaking for Little Big's comeback through a national selection show on March 8 with the national broadcaster Channel One yet to confirm such event. 

     

    So quickly another Saturday arrived with three national selection events taking place and an official music video release: 

    - Sweden: 2021 Melodifetivalen 4th semi final sees Eric Saade and The Mamas qualify to the final while Efraim Leo and Clara Klingenström booking the last two spots in the Second Chance semi final.

     

    - Slovenia:The country held it's iconic EMA 2021 show but this year's edition might not had competing acts but we saw the internally selected country's ESC 2021 act , Ana Soklič , perform her entry "Amen" , marking  the second entry titled 'Amen' for this year's contest after Austria's song. 

     

    - Portugal : Five more qualifiers from the 2nd semi final of  Festival da Cançao 2021 completed the Grand final line up. 

     

    - Croatia : Following her national final victory, Albina, released the official music video of "Tick Tock" the song that will fly to Rotterdam with the Dora 2021 winner. 

     

     

    What's Up Next

    A number of Eurovision entries to be released by internally selected Eurovision 2021 act with the week ending on one Super Saturday with five national finals: 

     

    Monday - 1 March: Albania's Anxhela Peristeri to release the revamped version of her entry "Karma" along with the official music video. 

    Tuesday- March 2 - Italy's iconic music event , Sanremo Festival 2021, kicks off and will unfold over five nights

    Thursday - March 4 - The host nation's representative Jeangu Macrooy will release the Dutch Eurovision 2021 entry 

                                    - Moldova's Natalia Gordienko to unveil her entry "Sugar"  during a special music event set to take place in Moscow's Crave Theater 

    Friday - March 5: Serbia's female trio Hurricane will release their Eurovision 2021 song "Loco Loco". (post update 1/3)

    Saturday - March 6 : Estonia: Grand Final of Eeesti Laul 2021 

                                      Denmark: National Final of Dansk Grand Prix 2021

                                      Portugal : Grand final show of Festival da Cançao 2021 

                                      Italy: Sanremo Festival 2021 Grand Final

                                      Sweden: Melodifestival 2021 Second Chance semi final
